Official Happy B-day Merica, appreciation thread.....

I watch Ken Burns "The Civil War" every year during the last week or two of June. It's a powerful reminder of what this country is supposed to be about, and what many have fought and died for.

Happy birthday to the great experiment, and let us not forget this fact:

Go to the cave for a bit and you will understand why.

It blows me away how much people get caught up in the political climate and judge if we're a great country by that alone. From my experience, the two groups of people that unconditionally love the United States of America the most (yes, this is a generalization) are those that have fought for it and those that have lived in other places across the globe that have started new lives here. Like anything else, it's easy to forget that the majority of humans on this planet would literally kill to be poor in America over their current situation. We have our problems, but we are without doubt the beacon of hope and freedom for the rest of the world. It can be hard to keep that in mind when we're so incredibly saturated with negativity from so many different media outlets.

Agree 100%. To paraphrase: "What does he know of America, who only America knows?" Ask a recent immigrant from Africa, Serbia, or Central America how they feel about being here.

We are all so spoiled, we can't even fathom how bad it could be - how bad it IS in most of the world.

We didn't end up too bad for a country built on slavery and genocide. Oh, and freedom and liberty. Happy 4th!

Separating the institution that is 'Merica from the day-to-day political knife fights and yoga sit-ins and bumpersticker slogans should make it very clear that this country is VERY special. And very fragile in appearance at this time.

Give me a flag-waver over a country hater every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Reminder to everyone that Joey Chestnut represents the American soul in all of us.

May Joey Nutz be blessed on this day as he goes to battle against a case of hotdogs. Praise be unto him.
