HBO's Silicon Valley

I totally missed the undertones of that scene. This is awesome.

I was the only one in the room howling at the time. I think it only proved that I'm racist and immediately picked up on the brown guy w/ the backpack and kill switch, saying "this is not going to go well". I had to replay it for everybody else to collective gasps and "oh ****!"

I'm stunned nobody else has commented on the suicide bomber scene!! F'ng epic!!!

The best scene of this episode (watch Jared's face when he hears it):

Richard : "I am going to put this in your backpack".

Dinesh : "Ohh noooo"

Richard : "That's fine"

Dinesh : "No.. I don't want to, I don't want to.."

Richard Interupts " You are going to hold this kill switch and then you are going to walk into the most densely populated area you can find.. alright.. then if you see the security coming, remember - you press this switch..and 'poof' you are gone.. yea??"

The lamb sacrifice suicidal music playing in the background

Dinesh : "I will get as many ************* as I can.."

Richard : "You will be rewarded in the end".

Im truly embarrassed to say this went over my head watching the show.

I was teleworking when I "saw" this on Monday, so I completely missed the brilliance of this scene.

Well, we know where Erlich is going to be for the next five years. That was pretty funny.

The whole episode was pretty great.

Ha I had to laugh when watching the final Erlich scene as it was stated he wanted to "Constanza" it and not come back again. His final words are slowly saying Big Head lol.
How are they going to bungle the latest concept? Not the funniest season but still entertaining to watch, thank goodness Jared isnt gone :)

It was a funny exit but man, that's kind of dark. TJ Miller has said that he has no plans to make another appearance on the show, so the end for Erlich is probably smoking himself to death in an opium den.

At least they can still reference him on the show and use his absence as a storyline or plot point. Like what happens to the house that he owns and they're still using as their base of operations? And what about his stake in Pied Piper? He still owned 10%, right? Maybe after he's declared legally dead the Bachman clan could come in looking to get a piece of the company. That could make for some fun guest casting.

That would be a great idea for the future with Erlich's family being involved. The video on the refrigerators was great at the stores. Gavin being right back where he was story line wise is kind of weak as not much has changed for anyone as of yet.

If they wanted TJ back for a cameo he'd do it at some point. Some of what I was reading was that it wasn't exactly mutual.
In his "Exit Interview" that recently got released. He very clearly stated he would not ever come back. He and Alec Berg we're butting heads constantly.

If you want to have a good read, I suggest the "exit interview" with TJ Miller as he is very honest in his thoughts. He hints that Thomas Middleton seems to be really wanting to be the star, and it put their relationship at a strain because TM thought Tj Miller was trying to overshadow him with his character. The whole interview is a very interesting read, and very erlich-esque if you ask me. I gained some respect for TJ after reading it, but at the same time he is a very hard headed person hahah.

This show while funny, seems to be going around in the same circle. Now we are back to Pied Piper vs Gavin Belson. It never feels like they get a win or loss, and always back to same spot by the end of the season. Maybe now that they have proven tech in the wild it will be better next season. They can be on the offensive some.

Good read; thanks for the link. It almost came across as performance art, like he was doing the interview as Erlich Bachman. But it's probably that he's just kind of an odd guy. That scene in Season 1 where he beats up the Ritalin dealer and throws his bike into the shrubs is my favorite Erlich moment, and I have to believe his line was ad libbed, because no normal person would think that up.

I've felt the same way and it surprised me when TJ brought up this exact same thing in the interview above. Hopefully TJ leaving will force them to come up with something besides Erlich ****** everything up again. I still think they can make a good show while/after they make it big.

Yeah, it's cyclical but I think that's intentional. Mike Judge and the writers are really hammering it home that for every Google or Facebook there are hundreds of startups in the valley that flounder or fizzle out because they either don't know the right people or they can't get out of their own way.

I do agree that at some point soon they need to change it up a little and show the team finally making and maintaining progress. Otherwise it'll get stale quickly.

TJ Miller cites the same concerns about the show as well,
"I just thought that what the show has suffered from, what’s bad about it, is that Richard is the CEO and then he isn’t — but then he finds his way back to being CEO, and then once he finds his way back to being the CEO he says he doesn’t want to be the CEO, and it’s just the same thing over and over. … So I thought it would be really interesting [to leave]. And I don’t know if they anticipated that or if it was yet another cliffhanger, something to be solved in the first episode of season five. But for me, television, unlike women and wine, does not get better with age. So I thought, “Wouldn’t it be interesting to leave at the height of the success of the show?” Knowing that Kumail [Nanjiani] is brilliant, Zach Woods is the greatest improviser alive, Thomas Middleditch is one of the funniest people of all, Martin Starr is the deadpan comedian of our generation, what if I just stepped aside and let them continue the show and see what it becomes?"

but to his point I think him leaving really will help the development of new storylines.

Agreed, when he came up and smacked the kid across the face, I lost it.

I thought it was really interesting that TJ brought up how amazing of an improviser Zach Woods is. I figured he was just delivering these lines with a great character such as Jared, but he made it seem like Zach would do scenes like Will Ferrell does it, they just start from the same point and he says a bunch of outlandish things and see which one sticks. Makes me respect that character so much more now haha

That was interesting about Thomas Middleditch (didnt know his real name until the article). It kind of blows my mind because he's the one guy I could live with less of on the show. Did like reading TJ thinking Yang would be a bigger part of the show. They literally could just do a show of Jared, Gilfoyle, and Dinesh and I think it would be the best show on television.
Had no idea that Jared character was mostly improvising his parts man he's good.

Agreed, although I had heard TM was a bit of a diva now that he landed a big role on one of the bigger comedies on TV, I never really saw it. I think TJ is probably a bit much to handle also, but I believe that he is genuine in the things that he says, and just says it how it is without a filter.

I agree that those characters have really come on in their own right since the beginning of the show, and the Jared thing made me really happy as I thought it was just good writing but it makes it even more impressive.

2 little side notes, I would have never made the connection that Gilfoyle is Bill Haverchuck from Freaks and Geeks, but can totally see it now and love it .

And, lastly: I'd put Dinesh's way of saying "f**k" up there in the best way a character curses, right next to Clay Davis' "SHeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit" in The Wire. Dinesh's "f***" Is always an elongated whisper and his voice almost changes pitch throughout it. I can't get over it.
