Nevada from a Nevada fan

Doesn't look like Nevada's schedule is that tough with their most notable loss to St. Mary's. Iowa State is no stranger to playing teams with potential NBA draft picks. Monte is the best guard in the nation and has stated he can't wait to play against Marshall. I don't think they will be able to contain Buford. Both teams have similar stats but I don't think you can compare the Big 12 to the Mountain West.

Nevada is a high scoring team but I don't think they've run into a defense like ours this year. The biggest potential problem for ISU is getting beat bad on the boards. That being said this is a dangerous team but I like the matchup.

On the dark side, Seth Davis predicts an upset. On the light side (for what it's worth) **** Vitale predicted ISU will be playing Kansas in the Sweet 16. Here's Vitale's little bracket predictor software he was pushing this morning. Kinda cool.

This may be the game in which Prohm's emphasis on defense really pays off. If we can disrupt their offense and keep the score down, we should be in good shape. I'm hoping we cause 20 turnovers.

hmmmm...so I see based on the video you posted (and won by 3), your guys can dunk and shoot 3's. What ever will we do against that type of team? You have a draft pick? You play until the whistle blows?

Kansas, Baylor, WV...oh, hell, entire Big12. I don't want to sound too cocky but our guys are battle tested. Four years of pure hell in our conference, chip on their shoulder and ******* Seth Davis to add fuel to the fire.

I hope we play aggressive, angry and like we are capable. If we do, your team might lose by 20.

How's that for welcome to CF?

Joking aside (if I was), good luck and welcome. :)

Nevada doesn't look real similar to this year's Cyclone team, but closer to the earlier Hoiberg teams.

Not a ton of emphasis on defense, it seems mainly because they only play 6 and need to rest and not foul. They shoot a ton of 3s, with their two big guys (Oliver and Caroline) both being kind of "stretch 4s". They don't get many steals (5 per game) or force turnovers and don't turn the ball over a ton (11 per game).

The big difference being that they get to the line a ton - especially Caroline and Marshall.

From what I've seen, it doesn't look like Oliver or Caroline play much with their back to the basket. Oliver especially is physically imposing and looks the part, but they mainly play at the 3-line, with drives and both Oliver and especially Caroline hit the offensive glass hard.

They seem to me like a team we can go small against - as long as we are really active and box out on defense. I'd expect us to switch a lot on defense, keep them in front of us and contest all 3s.

Offensively, I wonder if they've seen anything like our pick-and-roll game with Monte. Late in the season Big XII teams knew what was coming and couldn't stop it. What is a mid-major going to do? Monte's going to carve them up.

OP - Stopped reading at gaurds. I assume the video is when you shot 80%, not the half you shot 20%. Didn't bother to watch.

Is there talk about Cam Oliver going to the NBA draft after the season?

And what do you think about Hallice Cook, a transfer from Iowa State and Oregon State, redshirting this year?
Hallice has a medical problem that forced him to quit playing basketball.

My concern is Nevada seems to be a team that can spread us out. Young has given us an inside defensive presence but don't know how he'll adjust defending the outside. We had issues against teams that shoot well from the 3, (Iowa, Vandy) because our defense gets ragged trying to defend the 3 point line, then they dribble penetrate.

I may be completely high and wrong, but this is the first year of these 6 straight NCAAs that im not overly concerned by our first round matchup.

I just can't see us playing ball like we did in December and January in the tournament. The way we've played the last 10 games shows me we are capable of beating anyone. This is as locked in as I have ever seen this team.

Nevada is a good mid-major team. ISU wins by 13, 83-70.

P.S. St. Marys, Nevada's worst loss (?) and toughest opponent, played Gonzaga three times losing by an average of 15 points.

Hey guys die hard Nevada fan here , wanted to give you guys a run down on our team hope you guys could do the same.

Our coach Eric Musselman is a previous NBA head coach with the king's an Warriors an to be honest in a way has copied the ISU model on college transfers

We only play about a 6 man rotation but go 8 deep

Cam Oliver our best player only a sophomore is the highest rated draft prospect from either team an should be a sure first rounder this year. 6"8 has a 40 plus vertical is a walking highlight real. Leads the MWC in blocks an spectacular dunks an has NBA range from 3

Marcus Marshall our sg is one of the most underrated gaurds in the country senior transfer from Missouri st should be on a NBA roster averaged about 20 a game. If you guys can stop Marshall an Oliver you will win

Jordan Caroline our power forward is a beast the son of former NFL great Simon Rice, only a sophomore has gone off for 45 an 30 this year an plays tell the whistle stops

DJ fenner our small forward averaging in the teens and a 40% 3 shooter

Those are our big 4 an where we get our production from

Curious to here about Iowa st hope for a good game

You don't guard for ****, prepare for an ass whoop'n.

I appreciate the insight. My only questions are : Why Dave Rice? Was Satan not returning your calls?
