Hey guys die hard Nevada fan here , wanted to give you guys a run down on our team hope you guys could do the same.

Our coach Eric Musselman is a previous NBA head coach with the king's an Warriors an to be honest in a way has copied the ISU model on college transfers

We only play about a 6 man rotation but go 8 deep

Cam Oliver our best player only a sophomore is the highest rated draft prospect from either team an should be a sure first rounder this year. 6"8 has a 40 plus vertical is a walking highlight real. Leads the MWC in blocks an spectacular dunks an has NBA range from 3

Marcus Marshall our sg is one of the most underrated gaurds in the country senior transfer from Missouri st should be on a NBA roster averaged about 20 a game. If you guys can stop Marshall an Oliver you will win

Jordan Caroline our power forward is a beast the son of former NFL great Simon Rice, only a sophomore has gone off for 45 an 30 this year an plays tell the whistle stops

DJ fenner our small forward averaging in the teens and a 40% 3 shooter

Those are our big 4 an where we get our production from

Curious to here about Iowa st hope for a good game

It is going to be a good battle, very similar teams.

I'm still to hungover from KC to do a breakdown but someone will provide a good one.

Seems like pretty similar teams. Not a bunch of height and some good individual talents and good shooters.

ISU beat Kansas, at Kansas, first home loss there in 50+ games.
Then we lost to Texas....
I guess the "any given Sunday" theory fits, or Thursday in this case.
Hot hand wins.

We are really a pretty average team and it is hard to believe that we made it this far.. Our point guard is nothing special and hasn't been a contender for any awards. We have a few seniors but none of them have stood out. We can't hit 3s to save our lives and our shooting from the charity strip hasn't been very good all year. The guy with pink shoes is nothing more than a show-boater and really nothing to worry about. We got a pretty dorky looking white guy that starts and his defense is horrible and is a terrible shooter. One of the other starting seniors is in his 5th year due to an injury. I don't think he has every fully recovered because he is slow and does nothing but rag on his teammates bringing their game down.

It is too bad our fans don't travel better. It would really help our chances against Nevada in Milwaukee.

Mods, when are we getting the jimlad back?

I'll give it a go
4 senior starters. 6 total
Very efficient on offense, like to get out in transition, but won't get out of control.
Defensively, the national guys haven't realized it yet, but Iowa St is actually much better on defense than the Hoiberg years. It's not all about out scoring our opponents now. We're best at on-ball defense. Post defense, and rebounding are our weakness.

Starts at the top, Monte Morris is a freak, top 5 PG in the country. 6:1 assist to turnover ratio, highest in NCAA history. Scores more this year, than in the past. Usually off the dribble, but still good from deep

Naz Mitrou Long 5th year guy, leads in 3 pt makes, but will finish in the lane occasionally

Matt Thomas. Pure shooter, best 3 pt %, was a very good defender last season, bone spurs this year have slowed him some

Deonte Burton 6'4 250, 7' wingspan, athletic freak. Pretty inconsistent early, but has really settled in as of late. Can shoot the 3, but his specialty is taking a guy one on one and finishing at the rim.

Solomon Young 6'8 freshmen. Only started the last like ten games, but Iowa St is 9-1 in those games. Gives the team a legit post presence. Won't score much, but plays physical defense.

Off the bench
Donovan Jackson. Shooting very good from 3 the last month, like 55%. Can handle the ball when Monte needs a breather
Nick Weiler Babb, athletic versatile g/f, won't score much, but plays smart, and good on defense
Darrell Bowie, 5th year transfer from N. Ill, playing his best basketball of the season. Settled into his role, after starting some games in January. Layups on offense, and can guard decent in the paint.

Monte Morris- is NOT a Cousy award finalist.
Naz Mitrou-Long- is not the emotional leader leader nor is he a great all around player.
Matt Thomas- doesn't have ice in his veins.
Deonte Burton- there has not been only one player that can stop him, himself.
Solomon Young- hasn't held his own and then some in the arguably the best conference in America.
Donovan Jackson- isn't shooting 62% from 3 since February.
Darrell Bowie- isn't playing his best basketball at the end of the season.

You guys have nothin' to worry about...

But in all seriousness, welcome to CF and I look forward to a good game from similar styles. From the video you posted, it looks like Nevada plays with a lot of swagger and so does ISU, it should be a helluva game to watch.

Its hard to compare your players have some really good stats but the competition they have played doesn't compare to ISU's competition. That said if Nevada gets hot they can certainly win but ISU is favored and should be. You have a good team and should be proud.

Just as I expected (and just like every year when opposing fans come here to hype their team), this will be the equivalent of the San Antonio Spurs vs. the Golden State Warriors. JFC

Like wasted said we start 4 seniors and 1 freshman.
Monte is arguably the best PG in America he has broke the assist to turnover ratio twice once as a freshman and again this season. He was pre season Big 12 player of the year. Obviously his strength is being a facilitator and his ball control, but this season has really turned his offensive game on. Also has the #1 spot on the carrer steels list.

Naz Long is the 1st in our pair of 3 point threats we have in the team. He is 2nd in school history for 3 pointers made in his career. He can take it to the rack strong and has the ability to bring the ball up the floor and setup the offense because he came to Iowa State as a PG originally but transitioned to the 2 guard spot because of his elite 3 point shooting. He is also our best perimeter defender.

Matt Thomas is the 2nd in the pair of 3 point shooters we have, and #3 all time on the career 3 pointers makes list. He is all hustle and does all the little things that make him an important part of the starting 5. As stated before he was the best perimeter defender we had last season but a bone spur has slowed down his lateral movement somewhat. He is a very good ball handler second only to Monte. He is damn near a 40% career 3 point shooter. He is built like a brick **** house and won't be pushed around easy.

Deonte Burton is probably one of the biggest mismatches in college basketball in the country. Being a 6'5 "PF" he is quicker off the dribble and can blow by taller slower bigs, but being 250 pounds he has the ability to just straight over power smaller guards. He is one of the stronger players in the nation. With a seven foot wingspan and elite leaping ability added to his power he is able to grab just about rebound he wants whenever he wants. He leads the team in blocked shots. He is a microwave type player that can go for 35+ any given night when he is on. He entered this past NBA draft to test the waters but withdrew his name to return for his SR year.

Solomon Young is a freshman big that came in and filled really the only weakness ISU had in their line up. He is 6'8 240 pounds with a 7'0+ wingspan. He is one of if not the strongest players on the team. He gets a little lost on offense every now and again because the offense is very guard oriented. He has the ability to box out very well and control the paint. He has a nice shot and can step out and hit the 3 but does not look for that type of shot very often. He is a favorite to get the lob every game, and has the ability to alter shots on defense. I wouldn't say he is an "enforcer" but he will not back down from anyone.

Our bench goes about 3 deep and will go 4 deep if there is foul trouble. It all starts with Donovan Jackson who spells Monte when needed but can also play off the ball when both are in the game. He was the #1 JUCO PG prospect coming into Ames. He is a knock down 3 point threats that is cold blooded when it comes to hitting big shots at the end of the game. Coach Prohm has showed the confidence in him to have him playing point at the end of big time games in crunch time while Monte plays more of a SG roll. Darrell Bowie is the 1st big off the bench. He showed great rebounding skills at the beginning of the season and has showed that once again towards the end of the season. He does his best offense in the mid range and driving to the basket. He is a good shot blocker and does so on dunks quite often. He is 6'8 and just under 220 pounds. Nick Babb is a long athletic SF and is probably the fastest guy on the team with the ball in his hands. He can play the 1-4 both on offense and defense. He is a great leapers who can step out and hit the 3. He is fairly good defender and is a pest when getting steels.

The teams biggest weaknesses are post defense and giving up offensive rebound. Their defense is a complete 180° turnaround from the Hoiberg years and they can go out and just beat teams with there defense and not offense. When the whole team is running on all cylinders watch out because there is not a team in American that can stop them. With 4 players being from Wisconsin and 3 being from Milwaukee in particular these guys are going to ready to rock and roll.

Deonte Burton vs Caroline should be very interesting seem like the same player obviously Burton is a higher profile... The more I look at it it seems Iowa State is Coors an we're Coors light same kind of team , we do not resemble your typical mid major we are extremely athletic

Connections are pretty weak here but I attended half a dozen CSU games this year. Did not see Nevada play them but Nevada handled them 2x. Once with CSU on the road and then in the MW tourney. Looks like the tourney game came down to last few possessions.

MW basketball is fine. Some skilled players but not a lot of depth. Eustachy really over achieved this year when he was reduced to 7 scholly players then went on a run to finish 2nd in the MW.

Competition in the MW is lower across the board. San Diego St is a shadow of its former self as are Boise St and New Mexico. I saw CSU, SDSU, BSU, Wyoming, New Mexico and Fresno St all play in person. If that group played in the Big XII they would be lucky to win 10-15% of their games. Not a knock on them, some good, entertaining basketball and each team usually had a Big XII caliber player or two. In most of Nevada's games against top 1/2 of MW they won by single digits with games usually coming done to last couple of minutes. I wouldn't say they dominated the conference.

Nevada wonthe conference ending with like 3 or 4 losses. I don't think they had any standout wins in non-conf. they lost to SDSU, Utah St and Fresno st (2x) in conference and those were all upper tier MW teams.

My take - a team that deserves some respect and that maybe is a bit underseeded at 12 due to lack of good non-con schedule (they lost in their big non-con game to St Marys by double digits). If Big XII tourney ISU shows up it will be a comfortable win. If Texas ISU shows up Nevada could be a name we can no longer repeat.

As a side note, a series with Nevada would be nice in our non-conf schedule.

I'd take ISU and give 9.

My take

I was surprised to hear that Musselman was your coach. Not sure how that one slipped by me, but clearly a great get for you guys that will keep you on the map.

Not gonna disagree that we should win this game, but Nevada should be respected. Team has to keep the hunger they have had the last 6 weeks, which I don't doubt they will. But Nevada can play and listening to the teams comments they know what they are in for. Nothing scares me more than a good mid major that feels disrespected.

Is there talk about Cam Oliver going to the NBA draft after the season?

And what do you think about Hallice Cook, a transfer from Iowa State and Oregon State, redshirting this year?
