Race Thompson

The Thompson's had a great time Saturday. I'm pushing Iowa State hard, but not asking where we stand at this point. I know Hilton's environment impressed. Now I'm trying to talk them into a trip to KC for the tourney. I did ask Race's legit size at this point. He's 6'8"+ and his weight varies between 220-230. He's very strong at that weight also. Looked physical enough as a high school junior to play college ball.

We've got the minutes, the proximity to home and fantastic fan support with a top ten home floor environment. If that doesn't do it for him, then it just wasn't meant to be.

This. I can't figure out the mind of someone half my age so no point in banging my head against the wall as to why people wouldn't come to ISU other than just not the fit for them.

Good to hear. It was s good game to be at and the Hilton crowd was the best it's been in a while.

From the pictures published on his visit, he looked to be legitimately that size, compared to Naz and Prohm.

I can understand a kid deciding against ISU for whatever reason but I can't understand any attraction to Baylor. Drew has done a great job but they just don't care down there. I'll always be amazed that this doesn't bother more players. It's not just Baylor either.

Baylor (Drew) obviously has good recruiting skills, whatever those may be. Plus, several players have gone on to the NBA, right? We don't know, maybe he prefers to play away from home or go to school in a warmer climate. Still, I think we would be a great fit for him and hope we can land him.

Thank you for the info. Nice that we have you in our corner for a little influence, yet sounds like you know better than to go too far with digging up more. Might have a lot to do with meeting next year's incoming players for Race. Most of our present players he might have met or talked to won't be around when he would be playing here.

Now, good luck with your future recruiting efforts for us!! lol. It really is challenging for us passionate Cyclone fans to refrain from thinking that 17/18 yr. old recruits should fall in love with this place as much as we do.

Pretty sure I saw a tweet from a Minnesota recruiting guru and he said he recently spoke with Race and that he was basically open when it came to teams recruiting him. Not what we wanted to hear I suppose, but I would think that means at least we're still in the 'race'.
I saw the same Twitter exchange, and I believe he was talking to Gopher fans, so the way I interpreted it was "don't just assume Race will be staying in state, he's very open to out of state schools."

I don't know coaches or coaching, but I do know sales, and it seems like most often, the very best sales people aren't the most polished/pretty/self-assured looking people in the room. They're often the ones who can sit down and talk to you and are genuinely are interested in you and what you want to accomplish. I picture Drew like that. As an aside, I picture Steve Prohm like that too.

You nailed it...Sounds to me his relationship with the coaching staff is going to be a major deciding factor. He's picking up a ton of interest, but coach Prohm has done a great job recruiting him. Everyone posting have hit some other factors he's looking at also. Wigginton and Lewis are a plus. He is following them. Proximity and Hilton's atmosphere is great. I usually have to text to get info, but recieved one first from his mother after the Baylor game...Great game to have a recruit in the builing!!

He does follow twitter also and is getting a kick out of the Cyclone fan base. Before his Baylor visit he got calls from local papers and internet sites he hadn't recieved from any other schools. I believe our school, and program will eventually sell itself.

Can you talk to him about the language the one girl on the Armstrong girls JV tennis team uses? Thanks. Much appreciated.

We'll likely need this thread to get to 200 pages and at least 50 of those will be us ******** at each other for bumping the thread without new info. I'm optomistic that we can get this done, but we still have a long row to hoe team.

PS - Come to Ames Race, we have the best water.
