Personally, I think this would be wild if it comes off. The hype and pay-per-view might set new records.

I was in LV and bought some nice seats to watch the highly non-eventful Rousey-Nunes beatdown over NYE, but may think about catching McGregor-Mayweather in person.

McGregor would kill him, unless there were to be alternative rules. Assuming MMA rules, this wouldn't be close.

There's no way there will be an MMA fight between the two. I doubt there will be anything but strictly boxing rules if they actually meet which I don't actually think will happen. Perhaps McGregor could talk them into small gloves, but I doubt it.

This just isn't going to happen. I mean, I'd really like it too but Floyd isn't doing it. There's nothing to gain and if McGregor were to win, that would be the real end of boxing. That sport can't take a half trained boxer taking out one of the greatest ever. Also, if it were to happen, I think McGregor is done. That's his big payday and he's not an idiot.

No way, no way is this not a traditional boxing match.
I think it's been an inside game of fake hate to make both of them money.

I'm pretty sure Mayweather said he'd only box McGregor. Mayweather is 39 and McGregor is 28... I don't see this fight happening

Got it. If straight boxing, different story.
Yeah as much as I don't like Floyd, I think he probably dominates a boxing match. I don't watch MMA, but most experts say if they fought in the octagon it would be a bloodbath. Floyd would never go for that.

If it was in the octagon with MMA rules, like I said...McGregor would kill him. That is not hyperbole.

Straight boxing though...I don't see how McGregor lands a punch.

I've never ventured away from the Football and Basketball forums, but this is a pleasant surprise.

I'm a big MMA fan, not so much boxing, but I can't see this fight happening. I think Tre4ISU summed it up perfectly above. If it does end up happening I can't imagine McGregor will ever defend his UFC title. Maybe if he fought the Nate Diaz trilogy fight for the title it might happen, but he's never defended a title before up to this point so I wouldn't be surprised if he never does.

Anyway sorry for the minor hijacking. Unfortunately I think Floyd wrecks Conor in a boxing match. (not a Mayweather guy)

They are absolutely killing it with the build up to this. The slow drip of information is marking genius. They already know if this happening or not.

This. McGregor needs Mayweather for a payday... Mayweather doesn't need McGregor.

Money May holds all the cards and no chance he doesn't get to dictate terms.

I think he out points him like he does everyone else. I'm not sure what the measurement comparisons are but I would guess that Conor is significantly longer and that left hand would translate. It'd be a matter of if he could get it off.

The whole problem is we've never seen something like this. MMA guys train a lot of striking. Are the best able to compete with boxers? Is there something about how MMA guys attack that gives boxers trouble? We don't know any of that stuff because people don't go from mma to boxing. They go the other way.

In a straight boxing match I think Floyd rolls Macgregor like either late first or early 2nd. Floyd wouldn't even get touched.

McGregor has no chance how does one think an MMA fighter who only learns striking for part of his trade think they can beat a top rated boxer who's 100% in the boxing discipline

Mayweather hasn't knocked someone out since 2011. That's not what he does. It would probably happen if these two matched up but I doubt it would be that early.

I know it's not what he does, thats how overmatched I think Macgregor would be in a boxing match with him.

The hype will be 1,000 times better than the fight. Floyd will run, stay narrow, counter, like he did every fight. I could see McGregor pressing hard which only opens him up to Floyd's counter punching. The only chance I can see for Conor is to dirty the fight up with lots of inside stuff but that's never been his MO with striking. I'd see Floyd cruising in another highly boring and uneventful fight.
