People appreciate good offense over good defense that's for sure
People appreciate winning mostly. Right now we look like a bubble team with zero top 50 wins.
Get a couple resume building wins, and I don't care if we aren't breaking 50.

Our schedule has been really soft so far. I agree it's way better than it's been for the past several years, and they play hard, but we won't have a top 25 defense for long now that we're in conference play.
After watching small ball this year we are the size of a mid major at best. A thug like Edozie would be nice. We need some butt banging for those rebounds.if
It has an adjustment, which has flaws when the question isn't based in effort or coaching, but natural ability. It still has a lot of irrelevant possessions in the data set when talking about where our defense will end up in Big 12 play, and more specifically if it's good enough. That's adjusted.
This is a carbon copy of threads that appeared on hawk boards about their recruiting.
when you look at other programs and what they have for bigs, yes, yes it is like going to the grocery store and grabbing one off the shelf. In the context of college basketball, there are plenty of them that are better than anything we have. Just watch games over the weekend, every school has them, especially P5. We are woefully short in this area compared to most schools. Granted, we have better guards than most schools. It ticks me off when I see programs that don't have a basketball culture and play in front of 4,000 fans and they have 2 or 3 bigs that I would love to have. Heck, did you see Northwestern vs Iowa? Each school had at least 2 guys off of each roster I would to have. Nebraska who has never won an NCAA tournament game has better bigs than us.
The nancys on this board seem to think getting a skilled big is like going to the grocery store and grabbing one off the shelf - especially because Fred left nothing in that category then bolted very late in the recruiting cycle to allow CDP to actually FIND a guy still left on the shelf to recruit.
But we lost a game on the road yesterday to a coach with a BIG time resume so CSP sucks...
Your rite about one thing...when our b-ball program is lagging behind Nebraska re Bigs....well that doesnt say much for Prohm now does it.......
Yes, people look at these middling teams that have not been and are not all that good, see that they have a serviceable or even good post player and fail to see there is a pretty big opportunity cost for recruiting and developing enough of these bigs to get one to be good.Well we're way better than Nebraska so...
It's very plausible Lard doesn't play much next season.Lard is another freshman big. I don't think the rotation would be much different even if he was eligible. Malou is the real wildcard.

We give good effort and are better coached, a big improvement over Fred's teams. But how good are we? Imo in terms of winning enough games, particularly when it comes down to the end of games, our upside on that end is just as limited as on offense.

I feel like the "plodder" thing is overplayed and a convenient excuse for our failures in recruiting big men.
People now assume that because we ran circles around Notre Dame in the tourney a few years back, that big men are horrible and unnecessary. And forgetting we had a NBA stretch 4 (currently don't have one) and two really high level SF's (Hogue + Ejim) who played bigger than they look.
IMO there are plenty of big men out there that don't move like slugs.
The way Prohm seems to want to play..... by playing defense and more of a half court offense, could really benefit by having a big man or two. Young will be good, but he's kind of the bare minimum in terms of size for the team Prohm's trying to become.
If Lard is as good or better than Young, and/or we land another high level big man, then we may have a chance.
Lard was rated #145 in the class with hardly playing senior year due to transfer rules. Carter was rated #288.This. He reminds me sooooo much of Simeon Carter in his highlight videos.
I can't prove this but I think we're a top 10, potentially top 5 team with him. It's hard to believe he isn't the difference in a lot of our losses. He changes this whole team.
