Yeah, I think Monte's niche has to be that he is a guy who makes great decisions and very few mistakes. Perfect for a back up on a team that doesn't need an elite scoring PG to make their team go.

Yeah, I think Monte's niche has to be that he is a guy who makes great decisions and very few mistakes. Perfect for a back up on a team that doesn't need an elite scoring PG to make their team go.
Whether Monte makes to the NBA remains to be seen. I can guarantee you one thing. The day that boy walks out Senior Night for his last Hilton Magic there will be more than a few tears. Come next September fans will be barking "God I miss Monte".......just like they did with Georges and who knows maybe Monte will end up with the Pacers. Wouldn't that be nice?
I'm gonna miss that dude when he steps off the floor wearing cardinal and gold for the last time. We've been so spoiled by his lack of mistakes that we really take it for granted.
As far as his NBA pedigree, I can convince myself either way.
Monte is amazing at being a distributing point guard that takes care of the ball, but that's not going to be what many GMs are looking for. They want a fast, flashy scorer with the size to physically hold his own. Unfortunately, that's not Monte's game. He's not the perfect PG for every team, but it seems like he should be able to find the right mix somewhere.
While it's certainly hard to make an NBA roster, I feel like I can watch about any NBA game and find a couple players that make me wonder how they remain on a team.
Side note: I get why people hypothetically match Morris up against Curry or Westbrook or Harden because they are current NBA players, but nobody matches up against well those guys. There's a reason they are "superstars". I chuckle when I see people break down a player and write something like, "He's good, but Lebron would destroy that guy". Well, yeah. He does that to a majority of the players currently in the league already.

So, who does Morris match up with in terms of current NBA players? Who is playing now in the NBA who plays the kind of role that we envision for Morris?
Monte is a great college player... But would be shocked if he is in the NBA.

I could see him getting drafted in the 2nd round but I don't think he'll stick. Nothing wrong with making a ton of money overseas somewhere.
Who knows? On the one hand, he's as steady as they come and rarely makes the wrong decision with the ball.
Going against him is that this is going to be a stacked draft for point guards, he hasn't demonstrated a reliable shooting stroke (yet, to be fair), and his measurables - height, weight, vertical, wingspan, explosiveness - don't really jump off the page. But it's also important to remember that it's still relatively early in the conference season. I'm trying to give him the benfit of the doubt as far as learning how to close games out and be the go-to guy. He's never been asked to do that before. And he ultimately might not be that guy, but there's a lot of season still to be played.
Bottom line is that it's really hard to project who will succeed in the NBA. So much of it depends not just on talent but also luck, timing and landing in the right organization and the right scheme. I'm just going to enjoy his last few months in the cardinal and gold. No matter where he ends up next year, we're going to miss him in Ames.

Rondo, Calderon, Rubio, Barea, Dragic, Conley, Beverley, Augustine. Here is a list of current PG's. There's not that many that stand out as being super athletic or big time shooters/scorers.

Do people consider monte a great passer? honest question because I never have.
He isn't a flashy passer, but he makes the right decision with the ball which includes making the right pass to the right guy.
His biggest asset is he's really smart with the ball.
Honestly, I rarely watch the NBA so I don't know. I can only assume that of all of the point guards in the NBA, Morris's skill set isn't that ridiculously far off the mean that he has no chance at making a roster.
I was speaking in generalizations more than anything. It just seems like comparing someone to the best player at their position is a trendy thing to do in sports lately. Heck, I was watching last night's game with a buddy. He was listening to the announcers gush over Deshaun Watson last night and he says, "He's great, but {some ridiculous comment comparing him to Tom Brady}" SMH
I think he nearly always makes the right read and gets the ball to the open guy. But as far as creating great looks for teammates, I don't know. He's OK, but I can't recall a ton of the "Oh my god, how did he see that?!" plays over his career. It just depends on what the criteria is. If you're talking about creativity and creating easy buckets for teammates, Tinsley and probably Stinson were better passers. But there's something to be said for substance.
A respected poster on another site made an interesting point about this. He said something along the lines of with his performances in the summer camps, Monte has shown that when he's surrounded by elite talent, he really shines. I don't know how much they take that into account vs. his everyday statistics, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
That is encouraging. The fact that he brings consistency and doesn't make mistakes is good.
He have lots of tryouts. That will decide whether he's drafted.
When I made my comment on the FAWcast I really didn't mean it as a negative towards Monte or anyone else on the team. Like I said, I hope he proves me wrong and makes the NBA.
The reasoning behind my statement was in terms of what ISU needs to do to be successful on offense. We don't have an NBA scorer (like Niang) where you can iso. You have to move the ball to be successful. I think we saw that in the Texas game. We got some great looks at the end of the game based off driving and kicking.
