I never understood why Buffalo hired Ryan right after he was fired from The Jets. It's not like he was setting the world on fire there either.

The Marrone situation is perhaps as big of an indictment of that organization as any. The fact that he would walk away from one of only 32 head coaching jobs in the league, following a winning season even, should tell you everything you need to know about the way that team is managed.

I could see McCoy in San Diego losing to Cleveland could be the final straw although Chargers were hit hard by injuries.
Hearing talk the Marvin Lewis could be gone in Cincy. 2nd longest tenured coach in the NFL and he has 0 playoff wins.
Maybe Chicago?
The other morning on ESPN they said that the Rams want Gruden and are willing to pay big bucks to get him.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

It won't just be about the money. Gruden would probably want full control over the roster as well. And that's what would make me sweat about hiring Gruden or Cowher or even Harbaugh, if/when he decides to come back to the NFL - being a great head coach does not necessarily make you a great roster architect. And those guys would all probably want full control. Splashy hire for sure, but there's a lot of risk with it.
And I don't know if you can truly call Gruden a great head coach. His track record is sort of up and down. His time in Tampa will always be marred by his inability to find a quarterback. He stocked his roster with "meh" QBs that never really did anything. Even his Super Bowl win is considered by some to be tainted, because he did it with Dungy's players.
Gruden is a splashy hire because of his exposure and name recognition, not necessarily because he's this great coach.

That raises a good question. I know there are some names floating around about what coordinators could be brought in as a HC, but I am curious as to who the next Coach out of College will be, if it will happen any time in the near future. It seems like that is rarely used any more, and other than Pete Carroll, the track record hasn't been great recently.I think Gruden could be a really expensive mistake. He commands a high price because he doesn't NEED to be coaching, but I think his name is worth more than his coaching ability.
Who's the next great coach out there though? Some good coordinators have ended up being terrible as head coaches. Not a lot of promising prospects I can think of.

If you were a Rams or Jaguars fan, who would you want to be on the top of your list?
I would want Matt Patricia, although I know he most likely will never leave Belli's side. Other than that, I would say Vance Joseph or Kyle Shanahan. Maybe through Jim Bob Cooter in there because, well, ya know.
