Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

Oh heck post it unless it get's you to riled up.

I am actually fairly calm on this one. My wife and I are on the same page that if we go over there from now on the dog has to be on the kennel the whole time. We have the same arrangement at her aunts because they have a dog that does the same thing.

Volleyball was a little disappointing in person. The most frustrating thing for me is service errors. We gave up at least 5 or more points over the match in just serves. I mean set point in the first and she can't get it over the net? I don't know if TCU had a single service error. They also schooled us in blocks. Schaben was absent again, Morgan picked up the slack there.

After a very disappointing and frustrsting spring/summer softball season we finally have a team. The girls won their division at fall state this weekend. The coach pulled my hubby aside and thanked him for us sticking with the program and hoped the issues from the spring (some of which were personnel/players) are behind them. The only thing is with success is we may get moved up a division.

Yup, don't mess with small kiddos and questionable dog behavior. When I was a little kid we pulled into a farmyard with your typical mean junkard dog running around the farmstead. My dad told me to stay in the truck because of the dog. Farmer dude tells me it okay to come out and his dog is "friendly". Being over 50 years ago (left an impression as I remember it clearly) I actually listened to my dad and stayed in the truck.. As we were leaving my dad told me the dog had mauled that ******* owners little nephew yet the guy still had the dog and insisted it was okay.

Yeah. After the first little nip at him FIL said if it happens again he is gone which didn't go over well. That discussion ended quickly when I said something along the lines of "if he breaks skin I won't let there be an option."

Was watching on TV so got to see the stats on the SA. They had six and we had eight. Seemed like ours came at crucial points in sets that killed a run for us or fueled the start of one for them. Reoccurring theme unfortunately.

I adopted a rescue basenji in 2000. He was a handsome little dude billed as dog and child friendly. He was terrific with me and my friends and super cool in the house. When I went for walks he turned out to be very dog aggressive but friendly enough with the neighbor kids. Some little kids were petting him and he was all good and then suddenly without any provocation he turned and took a nasty snap at one. The kids were not being mean or tormenting him, he was just sitting in the street getting petted by them. Sent the dog back, no way I was going to have a dog I did not have confidence in around kids. He was relisted as dog aggressive and "unique".

Weekend ramble so feel free to skip.

Velo, I would've definitely stopped by had I seen your post. We walked right by you Saturday and my hand was lonely for a beverage.

The game was a blast. Our seats weren't great, but I really miss the vibe during game day. As normal, we ended up walking around campus reminiscing. It's still one of my favorite places I've been to. It's always cool to check out the new buildings and revisit the old haunts.

I was bummed about not being able to walk through Friley (locked now I guess) but I was able to wander through Helser since the door wasn't closed. Ok, so I don't think it could be closed because it was in crappy condition. Good ol' Helser. Still smelled the same.

Of all of the odd things to be impressed about, the food service over by UDA was quite a change from my day. My options used to be A) Do you want food or B) Do you not want food. There was no sushi. There were no smoothies. I probably looked like someone that saw fire for the first time.

My daughter keeps insisting she is going to Iowa State when she gets older. All I have to do is maintain her enthusiasm for the next 9 years. I can do this.

While I understand the desire to want to protect your child, I just don't understand why the first reaction isn't to kennel the dog, or put the dog in a rescue. You're making it sound like if he snips again, that you're going to put the dog down. Some dogs are just not great with small children.

It is actually infuriating to me when people bring their very small children to the dog park, and then get pissed off if a dog runs by and maybe bumps into them. If it was a children's playground, the anger would be justified, but it isn't.
