Don't know about that - just the party-boy image he puts forward in interviews and actions.
I don't think its an "image" he puts forward. I think that's just the way he is.

I wasted a lot of breath for many years telling my kids that the consequences of lying about something were nearly always going to be worse than the consequences from the actual event. I think it FINALLY sank in for most of them. And that's why you lie to mom about doing stupid things while drunk
No... This is why you just don't tell mom anything. And that's why you lie to mom about doing stupid things while drunk
I vote community service. Athletes got drunk, Athletes lied, Police got involved, Athletes got caught, Police sure as heck better not drop it. I agree with above, the owner probably got paid by the Athletes for the door so he's all good, but what about the actual time wasted by Police in this one. Rio is going to be trashed when the Olympics are over and everyone departs, I say hand them a latex and make them into gloves, a broom, some trash bags, an orange reflective vest, and one of those sticks with the nail in it and let them work off the money wasted on this. Semi kidding of course, but would probably end up nodding my head in approval if this was their penalty.
Again, I find myself wondering why the passport confiscation and pulling people off planes and detaining? This whole situation seems juvenile.
There may be an element of "blue pride" in there as well...By the athletes? Yes. By authorities trying to determine if a serious crime had occurred? No.
Because they were still trying to figure out what was going on and even with an extradition treaty (assuming you have one) it probably would have been difficult to get them back. So you just don't let them leaveAgain, I find myself wondering why the passport confiscation and pulling people off planes and detaining? This whole situation seems juvenile.
I guess I never assumed it was actually police officers when I saw his account. He said they had uniforms and badges. I thought it more likely that if they were police uniforms they were probably counterfeit or stolen. There may be an element of "blue pride" in there as well...
If people hint at the idea that police officers in a given place are corrupt, well, it tends to piss them off, you know? I'm not saying it's right, but it might be a factor in the mindset of the authorities in Rio.

Can you imagine the uproar that would go down if America's very own Ryan Lochte , on a night he was just trying to get safely back to the Olympic Village, had a gun put to his head, forced down to the ground, and robbed while representing our country, and the Brazilian Authorities did nothing about it?By the athletes? Yes. By authorities trying to determine if a serious crime had occurred? No.
His original story said they were "pulled over"...which to me would have indicated he thought they were cops. Of course, now we know that was probably a fabrication...but only because they have had the time to poke holes in the stories they were given.I guess I never assumed it was actually police officers when I saw his account. He said they had uniforms and badges. I thought it more likely that if they were police uniforms they were probably counterfeit or stolen.
You sir, beat me to it! No fair you dove! That, and just general civic pride and concerns about their tourism economy. Maybe the authorities in Rio are tired of having the city's reputation repeatedly trashed, whether it's deserved or not. The last thing they need is some douche 32 year old man-child trying to cover up his minor embarrassments with false accusations.
