2016 Rio Summer Olympics

now that Yulia swimmer is saying that since she got banned for "unknowingly" taking performance enhancing substances, maybe Phelps should have been banned for his pot use and drinking.

Ah yes, because getting high and drunk before a race would definitely enhance performance. These are definitely equivalent things.

Nevermind the fact that his "substance" usage was completely outside of his swimming performances.
One swimmer got sent home from Rio after boozing it up...can't remember which, though (not USA).
I don't think there is a ban on drinking for athletes...she might have a point about the pot, at least in terms of legality. However, pot use is really more of a conduct violation than a cheating issue.
She's got balls bringing that up.

And "unknowingly"? Wasn't she suspended TWICE?

Do I dare to hope Stevie Johnson can beat Andy Murray? A little torn about it, can't stand Nadal and I know Murray can beat him. WTH, maybe Stevie can too. Go Stevie.

So you list HER NAME, MEDAL, and SKILL first, and maybe put in parenthesis (wife of xxxx) after the headline about her, since the article is supposedly about HER.

I'm tired of being "fair" to men.
While I agree there could have been a better tweet that is a result of the click bait society we live in. I don't think it has to do with gender either. It has to do with what is going to gather more views.
You think shooting would be a bigger sport in Chicago, they seem to practice a lot.
I knew this was coming.

Rowing is probably the stupidest event at the Olympics
Oh really?

IIRC, I think that was the country's team rules that the Dutch gymnast was sent home for? I'm not sure it would have been an IOC violation?

True, it was his Country's Team rules. Then add in that I think he had been busted for cocaine or something like that twice in the past so he specifically had a zero tolerance policy.

If you "don't think it has to do with gender", you're part of the problem. Maybe you should pay closer attention to the coverage of the female athletes. That probably wouldn't help though.

Ooops - you're right. He was a gymnast. And yes, it was probably team rules. Can you imagine telling a German weightlifter s/he can't have beer? Considering the dude was Dutch, maybe he would have been better off with pot. ;)

Still, I was in agreement with you - those are conduct violations (when they are violations at all). Totally NOT the same as using PED's - which would be a cheating violation.

One small defense of synchronized swimming. Imagine Aly & Simone performing a side-by-side, mirror image floor ex, while holding their breath most of the time. It's not as easy as people seem to think.
disclaimer: I was in the synch swim club in college - but it was performance only (we didn't have the funding to travel for competition).
