2016 Rio Summer Olympics

Heard this last night, and feel like I had to have heard it wrong.

Apparently the score differential between Biles and Raisman (gold and silver) is larger than the gold/silver differential from 1980-2012...COMBINED.

That can't be right...can it?

I heard that, and it is probably true. But they also scored the events differently back then, so as much apples and oranges as anything. Does not take away what a dominant performance by Simone.

Like Warning said, the scoring was different for Olympics prior to like 2008, BUT, in 2012, Aly and the Russian tied for third. Close scores are very common in gymnastics. To win by 2.1 full points is huge.

Gabby vs. Komova in '12 =0.259 points
Nastia vs. Shawn in '08 = 0.6 points
Carly vs. Khorikina in '04 = 0.176 points

Watched the finals of men's rugby. Can college football programs recruit Fiji??? Holy crap, those dudes are gigantic and very fast.

I really enjoyed the rugby. The only other time I see it is students at Iowa State playing it somewhere around campus and they aren't quite the same level.

I never played in college but did come back and play some with The Old Boys when they would get back together and play. It is as much fun (or more) to play as it is to watch. I will say that I never, ever want to play hooker though. Those guys take a beating. I'm just fine playing half back or full back, thank you very much.

There was a 1.4 point difference between 2nd and 3rd. Total dominance by the US women's team

To be fair it is a Chicago paper trying to make a local connection. If there was no local connection it probably isn't reported because shooting isn't a big sport.
They also admitted that they "tried too hard to push the local connection" angle pretty soon after they did that.

So you list HER NAME, MEDAL, and SKILL first, and maybe put in parenthesis (wife of xxxx) after the headline about her, since the article is supposedly about HER.

I'm tired of being "fair" to men.

I'm assuming this is only for the prelims, because they have their own medal races for tonight, but no Nathan Adrian or Michael Phelps on the 4x100 Medley Relay team this afternoon.

I think it is a crock of crap, but if it was the unknown husband of a well known WNBA player like Simone Augustus or Maya Moore or a Tennis star or a WPGA star you can bet that they would make the same mistake.

I don't think this is just a woman issue.

I'm fine as long as when they introduce him before a football game, they just refer to him as the husband of Corey Cogdell-Unrein.

now that Yulia swimmer is saying that since she got banned for "unknowingly" taking performance enhancing substances, maybe Phelps should have been banned for his pot use and drinking.

Ah yes, because getting high and drunk before a race would definitely enhance performance. These are definitely equivalent things.

Nevermind the fact that his "substance" usage was completely outside of his swimming performances.
