2016 Rio Summer Olympics

Haven't seen our last routine yet but cripes, I bet if all five girls could do the all-around, they'd take top five. Hell, probably a couple that were left at home could beat this field.

There was a lot of talk during the trials that experts felt the U.S. second five would win the team championship. The U.S. is simply loaded in gymnastics.

Looked like the other gymnasts tried to do routines more difficult than they were capable of to keep up with Biles but they all keep making huge mistakes.

Phelps has a realistic chance to AVERAGE 7 gold medals between the 2008 and 2016 Olympics. That's not getting topped if it happens, especially considering he could win 6 golds at 31.
We were talking earlier about if this would be his last Olympics. It's conceivable that he could return in 2020, but probably in fewer events.

I mean, one of the medal contenders pretty much fell THREE times on the FLOOR.

Look at that Canadian swimmer disrespecting her country by not covering her heart during her nation's national anthem...

(When are we gonna get jimlad back?)

I definitely believe he COULD do it, but I kind of think he'll hang it up after this, especially if he takes gold in his last two races. To win six golds at 31, after his performance in London and the personal lows he hit in the years that followed, would be a fitting end to the greatest Olympic career of all time.

That was the angle I took - to go out on top. Guess we'll know in four years. ;)

He already said he's done after this . Not because he thinks he can't handle it but because the time demands of training for four more years with nothing left to prove in swimming. He said with a new son, soon to be wife, he needs time with them and to build his charity work.

These are the things you hear when you watch olympics all night.

Same. He said he was done after those games. I won't believe till I see it.
Same. The way he's talked about how miserable he was without swimming leads me to believe he may well "retire" only to come back and dominate just like he is know. When you are the best at what you do, you are just built with a different competitive drive.

Plus, his son would have a chance to see what all the fuss was about his dad in 4 years.

Based on the net worth they mentioned recently, it's not like he actually has to fit training in around an 8-5 job, either...

Could one of the gymnastic's experts answer my question? I think I heard them mention they are going to 4 person teams in the future, is this to give other countries a chance at beating the US?

pretty much yeah. Not necessarily aimed at just the US, but a way for weak countries to compete with the powerhouses.

Heard this last night, and feel like I had to have heard it wrong.

Apparently the score differential between Biles and Raisman (gold and silver) is larger than the gold/silver differential from 1980-2012...COMBINED.

That can't be right...can it?
