***Official Big 12 Expansion Thread '16***

Can't remember where I read it, but I thought it was believed there was 6 schools in favor of expansion, 2 on the fence, and 2 against it. There needs to be a 75% vote for expansion, which correlates to 8/10 teams voting in favor of it.

Oklahoma has been vocal about expansion with BYU and I believe Cincinnati. The Texas schools have essentially endorsed Houston into the conference. President Leath has said the conference essentially doesn't need any more Texas teams and doesn't favor Houston. Pollard has said he's not convinced the conference will expand at this point and nothing would really surprise him.

Personal opinion of what I believe will happen. FOX and ESPN are pushing back against the conference adding crap teams. Even if the Big 12 decides to add teams the networks don't like, take them to court and win, the networks won't want to work with the conference when negotiations come around again. Teams have their own opinions of who should be added, how many should be added, etc. I don't see the conference expanding, even after coming out and stating they were looking into it. No expansion, no new tv deal, no extension on the GOR. The current GOR goes through 2025-2026 I believe.

At the end of the GOR, other conferences will want to raid the Big 12, being plucked apart by the Pac-12, Big Ten and SEC. Wouldn't surprise me if the ISU, K-State, TCU and Baylor (and West Virginia?) walk to the American together or some teams from the AAC come over to a gutted Big 12. Hope I'm wrong, but I think CFB is on the path to 4 super conferences, and with the ACC extending their GOR, I think it's likely the Big 12 is the conference to likely go the way of the Big East.

I hope not - stinks of desperation.

I'd be really surprised if at this point the conference adds more than 2..Adding Memphis just makes no sense...Houston I do think will grow to be a football power honestly like Baylor..BYU most definitely makes sense..They are the only one right now that actually adds to the conference IMO. BYU is a great fball program with national following. Anyone that thinks BYU doesn't bring value to this conference just has no clue. I'd bet at this point they add 2 and renegotiate new TV deal and GOR..

If the do add 4 with no GOR well enjoy the ride for the next 7 years or so and hope we win the big 12 a couple times to be relevant.

I don't think the concern is not that they will pay per the contract. But the concern is watering down the conference in the next round of negotiations and not getting similar deals as the SEC and BIG 10.

Lot of rumors/speculation here in KC today. Something about GoR being circumvented to get out of the P-12. Colorado, Colorado State, Arizona and Arizona State to the Big 12 talks.

If there was anything to this and we were pulling schools this strong, why take CSU? I would say with a push west lime that BYU makes more sense, and I say that as someone not big on BYU. Hell, with a move like those three, make a push for Arkansas or Missouri or something. 3 Pac 12 schools is crazy, at that point you become the hunter and not the hunted.

My actual prediction is that we use this as leverage to update the TV deal and extend the GOR, and we don't expand at this point.

This is what I'm hoping happens. None of the schools rumored excite me in the slightest and just make the conference feel more taped together.

I did get excited by one report that put ISUs division as
KU
KSU
ISU
Cincinnati
WVU
Memphis
Baylor

Nothing like another Big12 North situation

BIG 12 NORTH
---
BYU
Cincinnati
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Memphis
West Virginia

BIG 12 SOUTH
---
Baylor
Houston
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
TCU
Texas
Texas Tech

Football = 6 against your own division, 3 across divisions, championship game in Dallas
Basketball = double your own division (12), one across divisions (7) for 19, tournament in KC
division champions have a bye for the Big 12 championship, rank by record after that

As much as I want the CU, CSU, UA and ASU rumor to be true, just don't believe that teams are walking away from the Pac12.

That said if those 3 are thinking it, you have to flirt with UCLA and one of the other California teams.

BYU & WVU should not be forced to be in the same division. Here's an east-west split that preserves rivalries:

CINCY
ISU
HOUSTON
OU
OSU
TEXA$
WVU

BU
BYU
COLORADO STATE
KSU
KU
TCU
TECH

Does that really look diluted to anyone? Still looks tough as nails to me.

Farmageddon? It's literally the only Big 12 rivalry ISU has left.

Came across this today and hadn't really considered them, but Temple makes an interesting prospect. Not your traditional powerhouse but they have been trending upwards in recent years.

No. They can thank PSU and ND fans for those 2 well-attended games
