RIP Prince

This is what I was after, plus just listen to the new Fawcast, although I am not taking any music advice from the twiddles.... People that don't get him, don't respect the art side of music and the musicianship.... Plus the man kept his roots where he was from...
Bowie and now Prince 2016 is starting very grim.

Anyone with any musical taste does not underrate Prince. That was the point I was trying to make earlier.

A good friend of mine posted this, and it fits how I'm feeling.

"In a world full of so many different shades and colors, Purple has disappeared from its palette." -J

The world is a little less colorful today.

Honestly never listened consistently, but always understood how incredible he was.

They had some of his tracks from Purple Rain playing between bands a couple of years ago at a show I went to, and I remember standing there thinking just how perfect his sound really was no matter if I preferred the song or not.

Seriously just sad to lose these types (like Bowie) that pushed boundaries, didn't seek anyone's approval to do so, and didn't apologize for it.

If Neil Young or someone similar goes, this will be a truly monumental year.

You shut your mouth. Don't give the gods any ideas!

Eric Clapton was once asked in an interview 'What's it like to be the greatest guitar player in the world?' and Clapton replied 'I don't know. Ask Prince."

I'm pretty bummed by this. Bowie and Prince were two of the most talented musicians alive - losing them both in the same year is terrible.

+1000

i didn't appreciate Prince until the last 15 years. Many don't realize he was world class guitarist....plus an amazing composer, writer, singer, producer.....

Prince was treated for a drug overdose 6 days before his death ... multiple sources tell TMZ. We broke the story ... Prince's private jet made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois last Friday, hours after he performed in Atlanta. At the time his reps said he was battling the flu ... something we questioned because his plane was only 48 minutes from home before the unscheduled landing.
Multiple sources in Moline tell us, Prince was rushed to a hospital and doctors gave him a "save shot" ... typically administered to counteract the effects of an opiate.
Our sources further say doctors advised Prince to stay in the hospital for 24 hours. His people demanded a private room, and when they were told that wasn't possible ... Prince and co. decided to bail. The singer was released 3 hours after arriving and flew home.
We're told when Prince left he "was not doing well."
We know authorities in Minnesota are trying to get the hospital records from Moline to help determine cause of death.
We have made more than a dozen attempts to reach Prince's reps for comment, but they went radio silent.

If you just listen to the music and ignore the other stuff (even though that was legitimately brilliant), Prince was a really, really great musician. Those songs are amazing.

Not completely shocked by this but at the same time screw TMZ. Give it a day and then break it.

In the beginning God made the sea
but on the seventh day he made me
He was tryin to rest y'all til he heard the sound
sound like a guitar cold gettin down
Tried to bust a high note but I bust a string
my God was nervous til he heard me sing
~My name is Prince.

Damned straight. Like their music or not (I generally did) you cannot deny the overwhelming and incredible talent each possessed.

I never got to meet Prince, but I was fortune enough to do a gig at First Ave years ago. Very cool venue. I wouldn't say I was a fan of his music, but I do like a few of his songs and I have a ton of respect for him.

Now, who can name the former band from Ames that did a cover of When Doves Cry???

So you agree, Prince was underrated as a musician (trying to untangle double negative).

As a Minnesotan, he was musical god.

Correct. :). I agree, I think many underestimated him as just pop.

Neither was afraid of putting himself out there. Both Bowie and Prince just tried whatever came to them, they pushed musical boundaries whether or not the world followed. They were pioneers, visionaries. There aren't many like them - not just today, but ever.
