Blowout loss to Baylor, Rhoads fired?

FWIW, I heard that if we somehow managed to lose to KU, Rhoads would have been fired after the game. Since that didn't happen, if he is to be fired, it won't be until after the last game.

No. The only plausible way you see a midseason firing this year is if the players quit or begin to revolt. And unless I missed something, we haven't seen any signs of that yet. If nothing happens in the days immediately following the WVU game then you might want to brace yourself for another season of the CPR era. A firing will come quickly or not at all, IMO.

You act like this is completely Pollard's decision. Its not. Leath and Donors will force JP to get rid of CPR.

There were quite a few people willing to give him another year with what we brought back last year, esp. on D. However, there is no excuse for this year. Support is gone, and a change will be forced.

Thank you.

If the players quit would we really be able to tell? I mean, on the face of it, it would appear we quit after the first quarter on Saturday.

He'll be gone November 29th or 30th. IMO he has to win 3 more to even have a longshot of being here next year.

I don't think this happens but what if the score is something like 81-17 or they get above 80? Does that raise the stakes at all?

Baylor is going to score 70-80 on us on Saturday, but Rhoads will still be the coach a week from today.

I'm not convinced he still won't be here next year. Guy certainly isn't coaching like his job is in jeopardy.

I disagree a little bit here. Fake punts and onside kicks in the first quarter do seem to show a little more urgency than a "typical" mid-season game...

I honestly think Baylor is capable of dropping 100 even with 2nd and 3rd stringers. I would HOPE that kind of margin would be an exception.

A mid-season firing for losses alone (without a circus of player walk outs, some kind of character scandal, etc) is probably a bad idea for a school like ISU as it sends a message of impatience in a place where a new coach is going to need patience. Wait til the end of the season, and let him go.

I understand the thought process here but anyone who takes more than a 2 second glance would see that Rhoads is in year 7 with 3 straight awful seasons to boot. There is patience here.

Yes. Impatience. If there is one thing that ISU is not, it's impatient with the football program as the fact that he is still coaching here this year attests.

Keeping him till the end of the season proves that ISU is fine with double digit loss seasons and that having one doesn't shorten the noose until the end of next year.

Well, history is not on our side, idk I could be wrong, but a lot of the donors think that Paul is a good guy, which he is, and thats all fine and dandy, but when that "nice guy" can't win a friggin football game, it's time to cut the strings. I just hope the donors are getting tired of the product on the field.

Also, what makes anyone think that JP would fire a coach, people remember the GMac situation? He was going to give him another year. Thank you again, Oregon for taking Altman.

No he won't get fired. At this point I don't care when it happens so long as it does. More importantly, I hope we can find a way to bring in a youngish HC that can consistently recruit well (even if it has to be unconventional with lots of JUCOs), develop players, and bring in a solid staff. Would love to see Ayeni retained. Would hate to see more washed up coordinators that took the job to jump start their son's careers.

There's a fine line between impatience and acceptance of losing. I'm not sure which one I'd be more afraid of as a coach looking at taking over this job.
