He probably had his heart set on a Michigan school all along. It was only a matter of getting that offer then his decision was already made.

Xavier Simpson became the third member of 1st-Team All-Peach Jam squad to commit, selecting John Beilein and the Michigan Wolverines over Illinois, Iowa State, Wisconsin and Miami.
Simpson used the 2015 EYBL season to prove he is one of the top overall guards in the country. He took his game to another level in July at the Peach Jam, improving on each several regular season averages. The 6-foot-1 floor general averaged 16.5 points, 6.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals, leading the Shooting Stars to Bracket Play Saturday. He also snuck in this game-winner:

He genuinely makes everyone on the floor better, an attribute that should attract more talent to Ann Arbor.

wow. well, I feel better getting beat out by Michigan coming out of the east on a golden stallion and swiping him up than I would have had we just been out-recruited by Illinois or Wisconsin. Ill still be thrilled with Jackson and Strong

Man guys so who is ****** more Wisconsin, Illinois, ISU?? Man what a nasty way to get a recruit! I guess that long term relationships that are made didn't matter much bc a team that showed no interest until a few hrs ago gets his commitment. Pish wth I wish him luck and all but nasty way
I can't say ISU is that mad at all, he wrapped up his recruitment in early September and the staff has known for a few days he wasn't coming here
I think we're probably the least mad because we have Jackson and likely won't ever face Simpson unlike Illinois and Wisconsin.
The good news is that now there is precedent for ISU to claim that every recruit could come here until they actually announce. :wink: <---but seriously I'm sure some people will cite this example later
I agree with this. It doesn't seem that weird or fishy. We have to remember, we only have a limited amount of info. Basically, what is reported in the media.
My guess is Michigan was slow playing Simpson, and he didn't have a commitable offer, so he didn't have them in his final four. Then they realized that their backup option (Simpson) was about to be off the board, and that primary option (Winston) was leaning in another direction, they made a late push before it was too late.
Since it sounds like he visited quickly on Sunday, and then decided to pull the trigger, Michigan was probably ALWAYS ahead of ISU and the rest of his final list. Once he got the offer, it was pretty much over.
In reality, it sounds like the Michigan offer resulted in no different outcome than what would have happened if they had not offered. It sounds like Wisconsin had him until Michigan offered.
Strange, odd recruitment.......he never even visited Michigan did he? Makes you wonder a little what they offered. Oh well.........it's way early.
