Devlyn Cousin transferring

Oh no... the negative nancies are forming a hawk/girl group to join forces. Too funny.

In the 3-4 years that I've been lurking around CF I've noticed that you have to be a special kind of stupid or ******* to be wrote off like that by CycloneErik and ribsnwhisky. Good news is you will have company in Clonedude and his ragtag team of misfits. Congrats.

Remember, when you arn't getting the cream of the crop each year, some of these kids have baggage they bring along. Hopefully you can keep them on the straight and narrow, but not always. We shouldn't speculate on reasons and by no means blame the coach. It is easy to lay the blame on his shoulders, but I don't think he always deserves it.

Damn baggage. Find some recruits that aren't opposed to bringing a carry-on.

I don't like losing any players, especially guys in the two-deep, but there are probably 20 players ahead of him who I'd be more disappointed if they weren't going to be playing.

Very strange to say the least. PR is quoted in an article saying that DC approached him and told him he was leaving the team so it definitely wasn't an issue of him being asked to leave.

Maybe, but there could be other issues at hand, where the staff asked for him to do certain things, I.e. Grades, keeping his nose clean, and what not. And he felt it was better to transfer out.

I agree to a certain extent. But if you are constantly bringing in guys with baggage and it isn't working out (see post quoted below) then it is on the coach. I am pretty sure that Rhoads once said something to the effect that what kills a program isn't the guys you don't get but they guys you do get that don't work out.

He will never build a consistent winner (and I mean 6-7 wins/season, not pie-in-the-sky) if he doesn't change this.

These players below left or were asked to leave but would have eligibility left for this fall:

2011 (8) - Donald Smith, Teddy Lampkin, Quinton Pompey, Ja'Quarias Daniels, Devin Lemke, Rob Standard, Devondrick Nealy, Tad Ecby

2012 (8) - Adam Pavlenko, Collin Bevins, Charlie Rodgers, T.J. Mutcherson, P.J. Harris, Duaron Williams, Damein Lawry, Devlyn Cousin

2013 (6) - D.A. Williams, Trevor Hodge, Bryan Ajumobi, Alex Leslie, Alton Meeks, Kamari Syrie

2014 (2) - Devron Moore, Martinez Syria

2015 (2) - De'Amontae Jackson, Kendall Williams

No wonder we never have any depth and are always "young and inexperienced". People who rip his recruiting are going after the low-hanging fruit. The real problem is the list quoted above.

8 pages of responses and nobody has suggested that Rhoads bribed Cousins to leave the program a week before the opener so he'll have an excuse for winning 1 game this season???

PROGRESS!!!

Now that I think of it, this might be the reason.......

Would we be punished for an impermissible benefit if CPR actually paid someone to leave the team? Has that bizarre scenario ever happened?

To me, this stuff is worse than not winning. This is essentially like having one entire recruiting class taken from you. The really discouraging thing is that most of these guys left before they ever had an impact on the program.

Yeah, so much for redshirting.

Player retention under Coach Rhoads is ******* terrible. The reason he can't build a consistent bowl team is because his teams are constantly young, inexperienced, and have no depth. You can win with 2 and 3-star players but only if you build and develop them over the course of their careers. Under Rhoads, we have to throw them into the fire before they are ready or we are constantly recruiting JuCo's to fill holes. It isn't recruiting that kills us. We won't win until we keep players in the program.

I have no actual facts to back any of this up but this is the Internet, after all.

I'm with you. ISU's best chances to win consistently is to field teams that are heavy on RS juniors and seniors who've been in the program from the start. JUCOs are great but invariably it takes them a year to get used to the speed and the schemes.

Has Rustshack turned this into a positive yet? Or saying he was not very good anyway? I don't want to read the whole thread.

Rooting for this team is like asking to be kicked in the privates, then saying that was fun, may I have another.
Three games into the season we will likely be wishing he was there to step up play where he was needed.
