Devlyn Cousin transferring

Player retention under Coach Rhoads is ******* terrible. The reason he can't build a consistent bowl team is because his teams are constantly young, inexperienced, and have no depth. You can win with 2 and 3-star players but only if you build and develop them over the course of their careers. Under Rhoads, we have to throw them into the fire before they are ready or we are constantly recruiting JuCo's to fill holes. It isn't recruiting that kills us. We won't win until we keep players in the program.

I have no actual facts to back this up but this is the Internet, after all.

These players below left or were asked to leave but would have eligibility left for this fall:

2011 (8) - Donald Smith, Teddy Lampkin, Quinton Pompey, Ja'Quarias Daniels, Devin Lemke, Rob Standard, Devondrick Nealy, Tad Ecby

2012 (8) - Adam Pavlenko, Collin Bevins, Charlie Rodgers, T.J. Mutcherson, P.J. Harris, Duaron Williams, Damein Lawry, Devlyn Cousin

2013 (6) - D.A. Williams, Trevor Hodge, Bryan Ajumobi, Alex Leslie, Alton Meeks, Kamari Syrie

2014 (2) - Devron Moore, Martinez Syria

2015 (2) - De'Amontae Jackson, Kendall Williams

You have become a joke on this board. I've done nothing but support Rhoads and be positive. And who the **** are you to think you know so much more than everyone else? Your shtick is old. Time for ignore.

Yeah, I don't get this guy. Nothing wrong with being a homer, but the venom he has towards anyone that doesn't think like him is astounding. Lot's of anger in that guy's life it seems.

On topic - really sucks to lose Cousin, for whatever reason it is. Seemed like he would be a strong contributor, and for the first time in a long time there was no drama or major issues in the spring/summer. We made it as close to opening day as we've had in a long time before anything happened.

Oh no... the negative nancies are forming a hawk/girl group to join forces. Too funny.

I'm guessing he thought he had a starting job OR he thought he would win it. When he realized he's been beat out he doesn't want to be here. Especially if we really are playing a 3-4, he would barely see the field if he was the backup... Typically the NT gets subbed the least on D.

To me, this stuff is worse than not winning. This is essentially like having one entire recruiting class taken from you. The really discouraging thing is that most of these guys left before they ever had an impact on the program.

To be fair, the two most recent guys were longshots to begin with. The killers are the 8 from 2011 and 2012. That is supposed to be our experience and depth this season and next.

That's pretty shocking, especially on the defensive side of the ball. A LOT of those guys would be starting or at least 2nd string this year.

A few things at play here. Playing time was not one of them. DC was going to get major minutes and had gotten major snaps all through camp. Unfortunately, things didn't work out, and we are lucky we brought in as much help as we did on the dline this past spring.

Wow. There's a ton of talent on that list. This is what happens when you take a chance on a guy.

Ok then an executive decision happened from pollard regarding the trouble he got into last winter and the whole baylor thing. Thanks baylor

Remember, when you arn't getting the cream of the crop each year, some of these kids have baggage they bring along. Hopefully you can keep them on the straight and narrow, but not always. We shouldn't speculate on reasons and by no means blame the coach. It is easy to lay the blame on his shoulders, but I don't think he always deserves it.

Respectfully, how do you know that playing time was not one of them? At the start of camp we were told he would play a lot and is evident just by being able to read a depth chart, but how do you know he was still going to get playing time? The pre-fall camp depth chart was a 4-3 with him 2nd string at DT behind Aka. In a 3-4 Tucker would start for sure, but who would play 2nd and 3rd team NG? Maybe AKA, Garcia, Trent or Leath according to the interior depth chart. A lot of guys (many without much separation between). That likely means that snaps would be few and far between. My GUESS (and it is purely a guess) is that Aka and Leath had him leapfrogged and he really wasn't going to be in the rotation much. Perhaps you have an inside source. So, again, how do you know it isn't playing time?

No doubt. Would love to cherry pick that list for some pieces for this year's defense. I think the defense would be solid and we'd be realistically looking at a 6+ win season. Defensive backfield would be ridiculous.

People are acting like this is our starting quarterback... Sure it sucks to lose him, but we have at least have some more big 12 bodies.
