I had some yellow jackets make a nest within a railroad tie as well. I emptied a can of hornet kill into the nest then place a brick over the hole. The next day I emptied another can into it. A few stragglers came buzzing around the nest over the next couple days, but smelled the holocaust and left.

This reminds me of a neighbor back when I was a kid. Their back yard was real steep and he was mowing and stepped into a yellow jacket nest. They flew up his pant leg.

His wife hears a commotion outside and looks to see him trying to run up the hill, with his pants around his ankles frantically trying to kick them off. Of course she has no idea what is going on. He got them off, ran across the street in his underwear, jumped the fence at the people's house across the street and into their pool. Got lots of laughs at the next pool party when the neighbor had to make sure everyone knew about this.

Just so you know, if you don't get the queen you're wasting your time. Once you start killing all her drones, she knows and will just make more.

Sorry, I was just told to log on and check out this thread. I've been tied up for a few months...

Anyhoo, get it taken care of?

Seal up your holes or you're going to relive this over and over like Groundhog Day. I've used expanding foam in tool bars, etc.

I know of this happening on three other occasions - all of them with Mountain Dew. The little bastards like their Dew.
