Random Thoughts IV

No 8 year old would want to spend 11 hours in a car and then be forced to look at a rock structure of 4 guys faces that the kid probably has no idea who they are. Go to the Dells.

I enjoyed going to the dell's at that age. My wife's family seems to think the only vacation places are Branson and Orlando so I have been trying to convince them that the Dells are a much closer and cheaper option.

free zoo in Madison as well if you want to add that. Though you may be closer to Omaha anyway which is way better.

As a former 8 year old girl, I disagree with your assessment. :)

Yea, I kind of think it depends on the kid's interests. My niece loved going to some Laura Ingalls Wilder museum at that age. I probably would have rather gone fishing. As a kid, I really liked Mesa Verde and Estes. Also the St. Louis Arch, zoo, and a Cubs/Cardinals game.

If I go to the Dells I can swing by my sister's in Urbandale for a break.

If I go to Mt Rushmore, I can...

Velo's suggestions by a landslide. When I saw cooler's (corn palace and wall drug), I thought...Well, you could also punch yourself in the nuts repeatedly, but I wouldn't recommend that either. Full disclosure, I haven't been to either, but I tend to think God does a heckuva lot better job of making awesome things to go see than man does.
