NBA: NBA Off-season Thread

The lakers are def not giving up Randle and the pick. Unless it was was for Boogie and the 6fth pick. The lakers want him to try to get Durrant when he is FA. Lakers fans and insiders say, boogie has never won more than 30 games in his career. He is a very good player whos stats are probably inflated due to being on a very very very bad team. He also has a long list of attitude problems. Insiders have said that the way that locker room works, he wouldn't fit in. This sounds stupid to non Laker fans, but Kobe has made a promise to past laker greats to carry on the forum blue and gold tradition of acting like professionals in the locker room and that cousins would not fit in that tradition. So non laker fans would say well f Kobe then, however that tradition has full ownership and fan support.

Fair enough, but you could also make the case that he's been a victim of circumstance. Since he arrived, the Kings have cycled through five head coaches, multiple front office execs, and a prolonged ownership change during which the team nearly relocated. The organization has provided zero stability and not much help in terms of roster building. And in the last couple years his behavior has been relatively good.

All Star bigs just entering their prime are rarely available via trade. I understand the immaturity rumors and coach killer rep, but his potential is too great to ignore. For the price of a lottery pick and maybe a starter, a team could get the best young center in the game right now. Wouldn't you at least consider rolling the dice if you were a GM? The caveat is that wherever he goes will have to provide some stability, which pretty much counts out the Lakers.

Don't want to disrupt that precious chemistry that has led to so much Laker success in the last few years, huh?

Right. I mean if you're drafting Towns or Okafor, you're hoping they put up the numbers that Cousins already has been putting up. You're getting instant production from him and I don't know how much stock you can put in his immaturity issues when he's spent his entire career playing in the worst run organization in the league. If the Lakers are ready to pull the trigger on giving up the #2 pick for him, I wouldn't let throwing in Randle stop me from making the trade. I'm not real high on undersized fours without a good outside shot and a checkered injury past.

Have you been following Randle the past year? Every coach that watches him says he is the real deal. In theory you could be giving up two franchise bigs for a good center that everyone that has coached him hates.

If he was a consistent top 5 center his team would have won 30 games by now. For comparison, Howard never won fewer than 36.

The problem is sometimes he plays like the best center and sometimes he plays like the 15th best center.

For example, that Lakers trade didn't sound too bad, although I'd probably ask for a future first as well. Cousins is better than Okafor right now, but is the difference between them Julius Randle and a future first?

you think he might have something to do with that? He can't control a change in ownership but a good number of coaches were fired specifically because they couldn't get enough out of him. The only one i can think of that wasn't was Marrone and nobody knows why he was fired.

I disagree with this. The west is absolutely loaded & the rest of that roster is garbage. IMO he is for sure a top 5 center.

Okafor has been taking a beating on talk shows lately=Jared Sullinger 2.0
 
Cousins is the most talented center in the league and without question a top 5 center in the league.

He is Sullener 2.0, but with 2 extra inches. I don't think that's a bad thing. I think Okafor is a 17 and 9 guy in the NBA.

5 guys who are better than Cousins? Gasol, Howard, and Davis if you consider him a center are the only ones that are debatable. He's better than DeAndre.

Both of those statements are true, depending on which position you want to call some of the tweener power forward/centers.

Still doesn't mean that he's untradeable. I keep coming back to the thought of how much difference is their in Okafor's game to Cousins game?

I like Bosh, Horford, and Aldridge better without doubt. Then there's this Duncan guy playing in San Antonio that you might have heard of. Obviously I wouldn't trade Cousins for him but if you're asking me who for next year would i rather have, it'd be Duncan.

It could have been him; it could have been the general dysfunctional nature of the organization. It's so tough to tell whether the problem is him or the guys running the franchise, and that's why the question of whether or not a team should trade for him is a debate in the first place. But in my mind, the fact that there are at least two teams (probably more) that have expressed interest in trading for him probably tells you what league insiders think the problem in Sacramento is.
 
Define "Center". With a lot of teams playing smaller now, the PF and C positions have started to get mushed together.
