I wonder if part of the reasons he left for a bit was to expand his network when it comes time to build a staff sometime in the future.Though his 7 years at ISU were under two different HC and staffs, moving to a different conference would definitely expand that circle of who you know.
This is the most informative post I have read since the debacle started two months ago (or earlier). It speaks to a lot of the feelings the uninformed (me included) have about what may be going on in Ames. I truely appreciate the candid remarks, as it is tough even being remotely critical of Jamie considering CF's working relationship with him. But journalists know the territory.

I just find it amazing that after all the success this program has had lately how some here are so quick to just go ahead and hand it over to TJ without giving serious considerations to other candidates outside of the program. I'm not against hiring TJ if he turns out to be the best man for the job but to hire him without interviewing and taking into consideration several other qualified outside candidates would be very narrow minded as Jeremy alluded to. If we named TJ the head coach by end of this week I would be disappointed because that means we didn't do a very thorough search and consider all options. This program should not have to settle for an easy hire, we have the roster to have success this coming season and the program is at a level that if the right guys steps into this job there should be a lot of interest in this job where only considering someone with previous ISU ties or someone on staff would be short changing everyone. We never can replace what Fred meant to this program nor can we just think anyone that worked with him or anyone that has former ISU ties is going to be able to replicate some of the things he did. I want to see the up-tempo offense continue but bringing someone in that will put some more emphasis on the defensive side to go with it would really help too.
He's also following several SI swimsuit models. I feel dirty for looking up who he follows, but it makes me wonder what LE's follow-list would have been like back in the day, and if that would have tipped us off to any clues on the help he needed.
Who has the power to do that here?
Gonna have to get off the "not conducting a search" thing. The candidates have been announced, they are all interviewing.
I've read literally every post in the coaching search threads and I don't recall anyone saying we should hire TJ without conducting a serious search.
I'm not saying it was necessarily a bad move on his part, but he isn't a full-on Hoiberg disciple by any means.
Fortunately we we have a President and Big Donors who are not good with handling what has been built to an unproven AC with a weak resume.
The simple fact that ISU is a p5 school makes it a somewhat attractive destination for mid major coaches (at any time)... So I don't see why everyone thinks we need to take advantage of the situation now to attract a mid major coach.

What is unfortunate is how the AD handled this situation- that it took donors and Leath to step in.
I disagree with TJ having a weak resume, but it certainly has gotten stronger this late in the off season. Hopefully Leath and major donors are not just now getting involved in the process of replacing Fred. Otz is a hell of a Plan C guy if we threw everything we had and gave ourselves a chance at Plan A and B, rather than JP acting solo in bringing him as the contingency for Fred's gentleman's agreement.

I think it's weird that not one Big name wants to interview for the job. I know it's Iowa state. But no big name coaches want to interview? or are the candidates intentionally this bad to push us twards TJ. Cause I'd take him over the names that have been mentioned.
