I started watching ISU BB in the mid '80s. The only thing I know about johnny is what I saw on the court and on TV (those bartle's and jame's ads).
But it seemed to me that he was as genuine and honest a person as one could be (or at least as much as a division I basketball coach could). If you were his friend, he was yours, even if he didn't know you. That's what I saw.
In this regard, I think he would tell Fred to follow his heart, not his head?
Who knows where that would take him though, but it may allow him to make the correct decision no matter what "we" want it to be.
