My MBB short list for coaches.

Ha exactly. Outside of Fred, his hiring and retention of coaches has been bad at best.

Yup and JP didnt have much of a choice here and gambled. If Fred leaves i have no faith in JP because he has given us no real reason to .

Gmac- fail

Cael- good with a chance to be great, but couldn't keep him, then he wins multiple championships with kids that were going to come to Iowa St.

Kevin Jackson- so far, not so good. Admittedly, he was put in a tough position

Vball coach- did JP hire her? She's been good

Chizek- bad hire, and he couldn't keep him

CPR- ugh

Fred- great hire, but couldn't keep him (assumption)

Any others? I think the soccer coach, but I have no idea of they're any good.

This seems like a poplar name. I have no opinion. But we should obviously try.

Any reason at all to think he would want to come here?
I'm guessing it would be a long shot. Utah to Iowa State is a lateral move IMO. Plus he has a good thing going at Utah, not to mention he is originally from Montana so I'm guessing he is pretty happy in that region. I would love to try though.

I've always wondered if his wife wanted to be back in a big city. Spending your entire marriage in Indianopolis, Chicago, and Minneapolis and then moving to Ames is probably quite the culture shock.

She went to HS in Ames. I spoke to her and Fred a number of times while they were in High School.

Right but just because you grew up some place doesn't mean you will always like to be there. Living in Ames as a kid and as an adult are two different things.

Again, I just think after 15 years of living in big cities, adjusting back to a small town might be hard.

If you were JP and always had to have a short list who would it be?

Mine would be T.J. Otzelberger, Bobby Lutz and Doc Sadler if he would be willing to keep the uptempo process.

hornecek would be the only one that would save it from turning into a **** show.

For some reason, id check with jay wright.

Wow... balsy... I like it! Hard to believe that he would want to leave recruiting hotbed like Philadelphia and leave the Big East where he has Villanova rolling right now.

Its going to be TJ.

Tj wa hired to replace matt and recruit. TJ didn't want t be at Washington anymore. Tx hired Shaka, KU has Self, OU has Kruger and you are telling me JP is going to just give the job to TJ Otz? No. None of u know or have talked with JP about this...you are just assuming that TJ came back to replace fred and that is entirely untrue. TJ couldn't wait to have the opportunity Ty to get back to Ames, his wife played here and family is in Iowa. Iowa state is a top 15 program right now and is at its peak nationally with media attention and everything. Talk about the absolute best time as an AD to go out and hire a top notch mid major coach. I can assure you if Fred leaves JPs phone will be ringing off the hook with potential candidates. You think he's just going to give it to a guy with zero Hc experience and see if that works out? Hell no.

Last i I checked Fred called Ames "Gods country". Are u kidding? Fred absolutely loves Ames. I know its hard for other people to understand but it is and always will be his home.

Maybe. But the job he wants apparently isn't in Ames.

I hope that the phone will be ringing off the hook. But I have my doubts. Coaches don't make a lot of moves any more. Most of the people that everyone seems to think we'll get (Archie Miller) have turned down similar jobs to Iowa State in the more normal time of March/April. And those aren't jobs where they are replacing a local legend.

And Jamie really likes TJ.

I'm sure there is a list of candidates, a list that can be changed as more time passes, and there isn't a set successor yet.

He does like TJ...and TJ seems to have the respect with players as a recruiter that may be enough "it" factor to be the next big thing (Remember who replaced Todd Lickliter at Buter? Brad Stephens)...would you all want TJ or Tubby Smith? Billy Gillespie? Other "known" good vs upside? With the roster we have coming back, whomever gets the keys if Fred leaves has a great start.
