Just read that El Bait Shop is now up to 180 taps. It's hard for me not to say it's the best craft bar I've been to. What's your favorite? What would you like to visit?

I do like El Bait Shop quite a bit, but I struggle with bars with that many taps. Working in the industry, I question how fresh some of those beers could be. I tend to prefer a place that focuses on quality-- beer clean glassware, appropriate glassware, the proper pour, clean lines, etc-- to a place that focuses on variety. Here in the Twin Cities, I see a lot of places people think are great based solely on the number of taps but they're ruining the beer.

People in DesMoines should feel lucky they have somewhere like that where so many good beers are only $5 or $6 for 16oz. The price of a beer (quality or crappy) is getting a little ridiculous in the cities I've lived.

I agree. I've been to a lot of larger cities and checked out their best craft bars and they would be the 3rd or 4th in DSM. Btw fongs in Ankeny last night had $4 drafts and free slices of pizza with each beer bought during happy hour. Damn.

I think they go out of their way to keep things clean and fresh. Nearly every interview the owner mentions this and is one of the reasons theY got rid of a lot of their bottles.

Cant ant wait to check out Surly the next time I'm in MSP

The place in Princeton I go beers range from 8 to 15 dollars each, and most are 10 oz pours. I only go during happy hour though where most beers are 5.50 and this is a great price for around here. Ridiculous

Definitely a valid concern with freshness, however, most of our kegs are 1/6 barrel and rarely stay on tap for more than a month. Before the 60 tap expansion, we were going through approximately 30-50 kegs each week. Our real problem is having enough cooler space for backup /replacement kegs.

I was pretty impressed with Fongs in Ankeny. Their selection was fantastic for a pizza joint.

I'm in Kansas City and its the Bier Station. constantly rotating 20 taps (with twitter updates) and a huge bottle selection that you can take a bottle or 6er to go or drink in house.

At least with El Bait shop, you always know what you are going to get and have a massive selection. but i like always stopping in at the bier station and it makes you try something new.

Is Full Court Press still planning on an "all Iowa" bar?
Yep. I remember a few weeks back on KXNO Bruno mentioned that a lot of their attention was focused on getting the Ankeny Fongs up & running, but once that is accomplished, they'd be shifting their attention to the Iowa bar.

Out of the few that I've been in KC, I like Beir station the best. I really like their setup between a few taps and then a large bottle selection.

Beer Kitchen is pretty good too.
