Needing a new one installed, any models and installers appreciated. Consideration, only the wife and I, kids grown and gone. Thanks in advance.

My wife hated the noise level of our old dishwasher, and when she replaced it, she went 100% by sound reduction. We ended up with a Bosch that cost around $900 (I think it was almost as much as the fridge we bought), but we went from turning movies way up while it was running (or running it when no one was around) to having people open it while it's running all the time, because it is so damn quiet.

Seconded on everything here.
Our Bosch is somewhere around 45 decibels and we for the most part have open concept from the kitchen into the living room and don't notice it until its done:when it beeps.

We love our Bosch, too. We have had it for 6 years and it is so quiet that there have been several times that I've opened it to put something in and not realized that it was already running.

I would go with something that has a stainless steel interior and racks that have a very good coating. I have seen people get new dishwashers and the rubber on the racks is bad and they quickly rust out and replacing the racks is a couple hundred bucks easy. I like our model that has the buttons on the top of the door so they are concealed when the door is closed.

We got our Bosch dishwasher from Lowes and they delivered and installed it. Dishwashers are pretty easy to install so I wouldn't worry about someone screwing that up (not saying it couldn't be done though).

take with a grain of salt as we haven't used ours yet, but we discussed mostly GE and Bosch with the appliance person. She said both brands are very quiet now, the main differences are that Bosch does not do a heated dry (which isn't great for dishes anyway, it sounds like - but means dishes may be wet longer) and their tines are closer together as is common with European dishwashers. This can be a problem if you have thicker plates or want to put larger items in to wash and the tines don't fold down.
She also said to go with a stainless steel interior.

We ended up going with the GE - it was about $500-$600 for us but I think it has a higher MSRP. Rated at 48dBA. Has adjustable tines and movable silverware things with detachable lid things which should be nice if you want to put larger items in or put little items in (thinking baby items which doesn't apply to OP) without them going everywhere.

Speaking as a floor guy who has replaced a lot of damaged flooring due to dishwashers, I'd say the installer does matter.

We like our Bosch, it's a mid level one but it gets dishes clean and is quiet. Got it from Lowes, they delivered and hauled away and I installed since dishwashers are pretty straight forward.

I have a Maytag. It has the garbage disposal thing in there so the prep is quick.

Quiet and stuff gets clean with minimal effort. It's American made too....just sayin'

I just installed a Whirlpool with the buttons on the top. Nice especially if you have small kids that like to press buttons. I like my Whirlpool so far. Pretty quite.

Yeah you definitely don't have to pay $900 for a quiet dishwasher anymore. Anything 50db or lower should be more than sufficient unless installed in a library.

Go with stainless interior & well-coated racks like mentioned.

Sadly, I am going to have to start thinking about this as well. My dishwasher is still going without an issue but the racks are getting bad (rusting and breaking off) and the machine is old enough that it wouldn't make sense to buy new racks for a dishwasher that could buy the farm at any time.

I've had a GE Profile for 10 years now, and it is still going strong. It was a display model that I bought on ebay. It got badly damaged during shipment, and FedEx refunded the shipping and the purchase price. I replaced the damaged parts, and no problems since.

I got married five years ago, and suddenly the dishes stopped getting clean. I watched my wife load up the dishwasher, and she was rinsing the dishes nearly clean. The dishwasher has a sensor to determine how dirty the dishes are, and it adjusts the cycle time accordingly. Rinsed dishes confuse the sensor into running a very short cycle. This was our first marital crisis...my wife would not believe that the dishes shouldn't be rinsed. I got the owner's manual out and showed her the precise instruction to not rinse the dishes. Finally, she decided to give it a try, and the dishes came out nice and clean.

When looking for a new dishwasher, really pay attention to the rack. Many people just look at other things and don't even look at the rack.

I mean, if she ain't got a nice rack, you might as well stick with the wife you already got.
