ISU's release regarding Darien Williams' release

There is a higher probability the kid joins a San Diego State, USC or even UCLA vs St Johns. The kid is from southern California, he could have finished his JC studies in Iowa but chose to come back to California.

Wheels were set in motion awhile back, he was having 2nd thoughts about coming to ISU before Matt left, but was holding to his commitment. When Matt left that changed.

Soooo about those California sources....

They don't even play close to the same spot

They have pretty similar skill sets. Neither have been a great shooter and are better going to the rim. Both have some potential with their size to be decent defenders and rebounders. I don't know if there are two guys that will fight for minutes more than those two will. Neither seems to be a guard so I don't think they will battle with Cooke, Naz and Thomas.

Would have made sense to put a restriction on his LOI release to not go to St. John's unless Fred thinks it's better this way having Matt owe us one. Still sucks now.

Just saw on Twitter that Williams is in fact signing with St. Johns....

Good for him. It's not like he's signing with Oklahoma or Baylor. I don't see any reason to be mad at MA about this like I know some will. If Fred has the best interest of the kids at heart then he'll be glad to know that he's in good hands with a friend. From what MA said when he left it sounds like he'll be more than happy to return the favor some day.

If he wanted to go anywhere else I doubt Fred would've let him out of the LOI

How so? What favor could he do for ISU at this point? Not recruit someone we are high on? If he did something of that nature then he should be fired from the job he has right now! There are no friends in the recruiting battles...MA just proved that!

I'm not going to get in to this. Just be mad about it for a little bit.

Where do you envision each of them playing? I see them both in the "Hogue spot" or for lack of a better indicator the "3" in terms of what they are guarding on defense.

Burton is a 6'4 SG who attacks the rim from the perimeter.

Williams is a 6'8 PF who works inside and also shoots a decent amount of 3s.

I don't think they would've competed for the same spot at all.

Well the only reason Fred let this kid go was probably because he was transferring to his friends school soooo

Where are you getting this from? Williams is a 6' 7" wing from everything I've seen/heard.

I am not mad...I think kids should go wherever they decide to go! Good for Darien...same with MA...do what he wants to do! Which he did...NCAA recruiting is a dirty business...not saying MA did anything wrong...but again, there are no friends in the recruiting battles!

Both say 6'8. And I'm going mostly off of Travis Hines' evaluation.

He's also listed as a Forward on both as well
