Nick Babb

Good catch. I got tired of checking the spell check after it tried to change three's to there's.

ps, still on iPad so can't copy/paste, but Bleacher Report has us fourth in next year's top 25 because our "big man Justin McKay" will get to play a whole year next year. Do you suppose he's a relative of Jameel's? Ha ha.
Yep - he's a cousin to Jameel Hamilton.

Chris Babb was and is a "winner". Chris was a team guy who worked hard and looked out for his teammates. Heck, Naz has said it was his relationship with Babb that kept him at ISU when he was having thoughts of leaving after his freshman year. Chris Babb is a "program guy" with the character and skill to move the program forward, so guys like GN, NL, MM could advance it a little further.

If for no other reason than a favor for Chris, I hope Fred gives the kid a look and some advice. Maybe that's all this visit is about. If it turns into an offer, then so be it, I trust Fred. I do know that we will always need as many Chris Babb type guys as we can get for the sake of not only what they produce on the floor, but also what they do for the team and program behind the scenes. I have yet to see a recruiting service add character into their ranking equation...some things you can't measure.

This is a Justin Edwards situation. He'll visit and scrimmage with the team. If he impresses, he'll get an offer and likely accept it. If not, we'll thank him and move on.

Personally, I bet we take him.

I agree. All accounts he was a stud in practice at ark.

Great role player with the chance to develop into a decent player. Not everybody we take with 8 or 9 open scholarships over the next two cycles is going to set the world on fire on paper. If he impresses on Sat, he'll get and likely accept an offer, if not, he got a chance. I think he could really impress some people given the right opportunity.

I feel like people are under the impression that you need 5 all world players on the court to do well. Good teammates who do 1 or 2 things really well have a place even on top 10 teams.

Again, Chris was a proven commodity, Nick is a big question mark.

Like others have said, it sounds just like the Justin Edwards situation
Situation may be comparable but player is not. We will sign Babb and you will say 2 years from now "I am glad I was wrong".

So because two years ago we didnt get a kid now we have to continue to pass on him? Guess since we didnt get Noskowiak the first time we should pass. Same with McKay. Maybe, just maybe Otz, Mann, Henry and Fred have a better insight than we do.

Or, in short, "let me mayor coach!"

6.4 ppg, 4 rebounds, top 50 recruit out of HS.

I'm not saying Fred doesn't want him, I'm not saying things didn't change all I'm saying is this a unique situation since we didn't want him out of HS and it's not there is much to evaluate on what he did at Arkansas. We do know Arkansas had a 10 man rotation and he wasn't part of it
I wouldn't say that we DIDN'T want him out of high school. IMO, we were interested but he wasn't one of our top targets and we ended up getting a couple guys that we had wanted more than Babb. If he wants to be a Clone, we should at least have him for a visit and see what happens. That can't hurt anything.

Interesting. Apparently talented enough to get a scholarship on a high major team, and Arkansas had enough talent to explain a lack of minutes. Definitely a good bloodline, and if he has a similar drive to Chris, it could be a good calculated risk. Who knows where he could be after a year in the system? On the other hand, what Chris did for us merits at least a talk with his brother, so maybe that's it. Either way, Fed is a great evaluator of talent.
Sorry if someone already pointed this out... But I think this is the nicest thing you've ever said about the Fed :jimlad:

I like it. If Fred sees something there bring him on.
Worst case you have a great kid and hard worker on scholarship for 4 years or 3 years if he goes the grad transfer route for his senior season.
Best case he bulks up like his brother and you have a stud defender and 3 pt shooter for 3 years.

Probably not going to get great consistency if you live off of transfers and projects every year. Need a couple guys that have a shot at being role players and will stick around.

Chris Babb, one of my favorite and most underrated players of Hoiball.

I won't say if Nick is half the player that Chris was then we should take him, but if he is 3/4ths the player Chris was, then we should. Chris Babb was that good IMO.

You could say the same about every incoming freshman.

Except pretty much every freshman we go after is highly regarded in terms of rankings and offers. If he had a different last name people would be freaking out on why were bringing him on campus. Fred hasn't really gone after 4 year "role players" for quite some time

He's not a freshman who sat on the bench at somewhere Valley school or something. He was highly regarded enough to land at Arkansas, and they were a top 25 team all year with really good starting talent. I don't think his playing time meant a ton. I think whoever gets Custer is going to get a really good player, and he barely sniffed the floor for us.

He has potential to be much more than a 4 year "role player" as I am guessing you define it. We need role players. Hogue was a role player, so was Chris Babb and the NBA needs role players too. Role player doesnt mean unimportant again maybe you don't know what a role player is. Most expected him to start at Arkansas this year. He was regarded as the best defender, he is by most account a very good prospect. He had many good offers out of HS. You are just wrong. We may or may not take him but he is going to be a good player for someone. He is NOT a Justin Edwards. You've said your piece now quit littering a recruit thread with negative nonsense.

Im not wrong, I'm not saying Fred doesn't want him all I'm saying is this is unique because we've never brought in a transfer that wasn't proven. He would easily be the least regarded transfer we've ever brought in. Anyone who knows me on here would know I'm not negative at all when it comes to ISU basketball, especially Fred's recruiting strategy
