ISU's release regarding Darien Williams' release

There are a lot of conspiracies that Matt A is screwing us over on all of these recruits but I just don't see it. Diallo was always a long shot, it's much more likely that on the last visit he told Matt he had a hard UK lean based on who leaves. Matt A leaves for SJU and uses his relationship with Diallo as a bargaining chip to help land the job knowing the Diallo ship is likely leaving port. Then on the Williams front, he likely was having second thoughts all fall and winter living in CA and Matt A was the reason he was staying. Without Matt A to help guide him to ISU he asked for a release from his LOI. No doubt it hurts, but it's not a big blow to this coming season and I'm confident that CFH and TJ will line up some solid guys to fill roles this coming year and into the next season.

It spilled out through Hines weeks before?

Not weeks before, but there were people on this forum "in the know" who were claiming things were going south with Vaughn about a week before his announcement, when before that ISU was arguably the frontrunner for his commitment. Many people didn't buy it, myself included, but they ended up being quite accurate in the end. IIRC, Hines didn't report on it until the day of Vaughn's announcement. Maybe he didn't know, or wasn't confident enough on the information to report on it, or maybe he withheld the info at the behest of the staff, but the tea leaves were certainly there to be read.

I'm just saying if insiders who have good knowledge in the program are claiming that we aren't out for Diallo, then the staff likely believes we aren't out.

If Williams does follow Matt A to the johnnies, you can be sure it was Fred's idea. No way Matt is going to burn a bridge that could lead him to the nba. To me it either means Williams isn't going to be healthy yet, we have some one else slated for that spot or (least likely) Williams isn't going to be that good.if he doesn't follow Matt and ends up at a big time program I'm more worried.
You've totally lost me. Fred won't deny a kid his release, & thus the kid is free to choose , but to suggest it was "his idea" he goes to St. John's. Wth? CFH did not want to lose Williams,AT ALL! But once he doesn't want to come here, you let him go. Not much Fred can do as to where he now chooses. And your last 3 suggestions are so off base they have me shaking my head.

There's got to be something not being said. But I don't buy the 'Williams likes ISU if Matt A is here but bolts if he leaves' story.

In the randy P article he wouldn't comment if he'd still be here if Matt stayed. But says no other schools have contacted him? Doubt he leaves without contact from Matt or another school.

Time will tell I guess. My hope is he ends up at eg AZ and this was just an excuse.

Sounds like tampering to me.

I tend to lean this direction. It's been a long time since his initial recruitment. Could want to stay out west. Could want more minutes this year. Who knows?

Then you simply don't know college basketball/college sports. This happens ALL THE TIME everywhere even with assistant coaches. Players usually don't buy into a school, they buy into the coach. There's very few schools out there where a player actually buys into the school and those are usually the storied programs like UNC, Duke, Kentucky, and Kansas.

I heard on my police scanner that Fred is going to be the next assistant coach for the Siberian national women's team. You guys are ****ed.

Something is rotten in Denmark here.... Hoiberg's departure may, or may not be imminent, but I think it is apparent he is grooming TJ for HC when his call to the Association becomes a reality.
You're always negative about everything. Posters like you, who get worked up over everything and assume the worst, make our fanbase look bad.

Lol aren't you the one that made a thread during last years OSU game about throwing in the towel and giving up on the team when our seniors were showing no "heart" on senior night. Ironic that you gave up and our seniors made an epic comeback against OSU.

Cyclone fans have a hard time handling success, since it is so infrequent. Nervous, anxious, panic. What makes this off season any different than the past? Two years ago we needed an impact player eligible immediately and and assistant coach. Oh and http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaab-...oiberg-as-potential-head-coach-210700359.html Last year we needed an impact player and an assistant coach. And again http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...6-coach-fred-hoiberg-nba-speculation/6944453/ This year we need(ed) an assistant coach and impact players for 2016-17. And yet again http://www.si.com/nba/2015/03/21/chicago-bulls-tom-thibodeau-rumors-fred-hoiberg. This year we have time (transfers just announcing) and experience to land the transfer players we need, and honestly look at our high school recruiting successes. We have landed solid recruits, but never been able to land the 5 Stars. And CFH, well, he will go when he chooses, but I think a father/coach's dream would be to coach his sons at his alma mater, where his family has deep roots.

Well, we've had 4 assistants leave under Hoiberg and this is the first recruit to do this, right? Do you have any examples of a signed recruit doing this at Iowa St BB under other head coaches?

Besides, I'm not saying it doesn't happen, only that I'm not buying it in this instance. Just a gut feeling. For example, if Thomas had backed out when Otz left I wouldn't have felt this way. Not sure why.

Only the guys that thought CFH interviewed for the job. Which he didn't based on the facts of the article. A guy calling you to ask if you would be interested in his job and you say no is not an interview.
Fred and his wife WENT to Cali, it wasn't a phone call. It just depends on your definition of "formal".
