New construction on south duff

They built a freakin mountain! The base of the new construction (the actual building) is higher than the roof of the car rental place next door.

I have name it Mt. Happy Joes and placed a flag there to make it official.

That's good. They will probably put all of the critical mechanical in the basement though.

I could write for days on this subject but will only say that I fear someday of lives being lost in flash flooding on south Duff, or around Hilton or the Jack for that matter.

The empty lot next to the Jiffy Lube on S. Duff is going to be a chik-fil-a apparently.

I'm with you BDK. Ames is about the only town where all the commercial development is on the complete opposite side of town as the residential development.

Ames likes to think it is some progressive town but all they have the same suburban development as every other town PLUS a terribly planned commercial corridor.

Ankeny is just as bad IMO. except they have 2 horribly bad corridors with Delaware and Ankeny Blvd.

More like:

Ames, where everyone that isn't an engineer knows more than an engineer, no matter the topic.

Yeah you dont need to be an engineer to know how building in the floodplain works. In fact, quite a few people who are CFM's (Certified Floodplain Managers) in Iowa are not engineers.
