Walking Dead

Really liked the episode this week. Eugene parts were funny as hell. I thought he was full of crap, but I didn't think we would find out until the crew got close to D.C. Wonder what role he will have going forward? Probably end up zombie food by the end of the season.

So, does that group now just turn around and head back to the church to meet up with the rest? Seems like that makes the most sense for them.

reinforcements at the last possible moment to help turn the tide.

I've never read the comics, but always felt that Eugene was "full of it," calling himself a scientist. Apparently they continued with this storyline in the show.

Still, is there any hope in a cure? I mean, I still like the fact they had a goal to get to DC, and work on a cure. Eugene ripped that away in a hurry. I really wish they would come upon a REAL scientist or group that is indeed working on this/finding a cure. (In that, finding out HOW this all freaking happened, who started it, is this all biblical?, or some human virus that came about, etc...) But, that's just me.

I agree with you but I don't think it will ever go down that road. One thing I'd be interested to see is if babies born into the world (Judith) are infected or not. If so, it'd basically be impossible for humanity to ever rebuild.

Agreed with some of you that I had a sneaking feeling that Eugene was full of ****. This episode made me LOL several times with all the different comments about the mullet. When someone told him his party was getting a little long I really LOL'd.

I disagree. It doesn't make it easier, but the surviving humanity has developed coping mechanisms for their own dead at this point (stab them in the head).

Yep. Once the zombie horde is put down to a manageable size or eliminated, SOP for the survivors would be to stab every dead body in the head.

There was a lot of backlash on the quality of last weeks episode. Where is it for this one? The one tonight was horrendous. Worst of the series.

It's amazing how two weeks in a row people stated, "Worst of the series," when they completely forgot Season 2 and the ending of Season 3. I'd rather watch the last two episodes every time over the constant search for Sophia and the angst on the farm or Andrea staring stupidly at a dying Milton while the Gov takes his posse through the prison, shoot off guns, and nothing happens.

Yeah, I think the reason there wasn't "Backlash" over this episode is because it was pretty damn good. At least I thought so. Not every episode will have huge climactic events like 1 and 3 of this season. But hell, the Eugene reveal was a pretty huge event in this one.

I'm guessing that the state of the CDC back in season 1 would suggest that things are not going well, at least in the USA. You would think that when this outbreak got serious, a lot of resources would be put into science and research, presumably primarily at the CDC. When we saw the group there, only one scientist was even still alive. (Of course, he's dead now and the whole CDC is destroyed with him.) So I'm not holding my breath that there will be any opportunity for a cure.

In all fairness, other than what the CDC guy said, we really don't know anything about what is happening outside of Georgia.

Abraham and Co. came from Houston, didn't they, and they've had trouble with the dead all the way from Houston to Georgia.

That said, are we sure that the CDC guy was right? It's been a while since I saw that one.

The one thing I think Eugene wasn't full of **** about is Washington DC being a good place for the group to go.

People are just crybabies. You don't have to have non-stop drama and action for something to be good. Sure, some of the show was campy but come on.

Campy? Have you watched Z Nation? (I do watch it to get my Friday zombie fix) That is Scy-Fy channel's version of walking dead and way campier than TWD will ever be.

Pretty sure the skanky fields were an oversized feedlot.

As for the loss of the CDC ending a hope for a cure, I disagree. The CDC tracks outbreaks and assists in tracing back to origins or patient zero. They store a lot of nasty bugs and study some of them, but they are not the only level 4 lab in the country. They have the most benign reputation and the most visible public face, but there are other labs that do the nasty research...which, given their secretive nature, might still be operational somewhere in the Walking Dead America.

The problem I have with this is Jenner (CDC guy) made it sound like he was last guy standing - not just at CDC Atlanta, but at research facilities everywhere. IIRC he said something along the lines that research facilities in Europe (France, I think) hadn't communicated in a long time and it had been awhile since he had heard from anybody. If CDC Atlanta goes down, as big and as well funded as it is, I think you'd be hard pressed to find any major research facility going. For the sake of this series, if there's to be a happy resolution, there would have to be a small facility somewhere. But I don't even think the comics have gotten into that.

It would make sense that:

*America would "last longer" than Europe (population density)
*High-level scientists would remain in contact and under protection

So unless Jenner was pulling a Eugene of his own ("I have a degree in biology from DeKalb Co. Comm. College, so let's head to the CDC and see what I can do") then I think there is little to no hope for there being the manpower, brains, and/or resources to find a cure.

I do think the D.C. is a smart place to go because if anyone with big-picture knowledge is left, they would probably be there.
