Tenderloin Reviews

There is a bar on the corner across from courthouse in Carrol that I've eaten at several times and has a very respectable pork tenderloin IMO.

Don't get out much do you? Will agree there is several places that serve a pork tenderloin with bread and sliver of pork, but there are are a number of great locations across the state of IA doing the tenderloin justice. Need to get off the beaten path to enjoy what IA has to offer with different foods.
Yes, in 21 years I never left the house.

Is the difference just the quality of the meat? Or the thickness? or ? I seem to remember Hardee's having pork fritters at one time. Maybe they still do but I never knew what the difference is.

I always considered a pork fritter something that had slightly more pork than a can of pork and bean flatten out to about 8 inches and buried in breading. Basically you are eating fried breading.

I didn't like the ones at Coles in Slater because they were really thick, which some people love, but I like it when they're thin and wide.

The best tenderloins are the ones at the state fair

I always like the Hickory Park pork fritter until they changed them about 5 years ago. They used to be the thick kind and just perfect.

Now, I like HyVee's from the meat counter and fry them at home.

Looking at that list just made me realize how good I ate during my old crop scouting days as our regular stops were all on the list.

I really need to make a trip to Flatheads. Miss that place for lunch. Now I just need a reason to drive to St. Anthony.
All you can eat fish this Saturday.

If you're eating Smokey D's and not getting brisket, you're making a mistake.

Now if you got a tenderloin and brisket then carry on.

I frequent a lot of BBQ joints, but my one time experience at Smokey D's wasn't worth going back; maybe just a bad luck of the draw, but very disappointing.

Fritters normally have and can have by USDA regulation up to 65% breading; 35% minimum meat. Most good tenderloins have much higher % meat.

We always get together with my mom's side of the family on or shortly after thanskgiving day. Last year everyone came up to the twin cities and I roasted a whole hog via my la caja china. This year, I'm coming down to Iowa and we're doing homemade pork tenderloins (fritters), inspired by this thread. My uncles have gas fired outdoor oil fryers they typically use for a fish fry/morels, so this should be pretty awesome... Gotta find one of those automatic tenderizer/cuber machines. Pork tenderloin sandwhiches with homemade hard apple and hard apple/cranberry cider...

Try it again, I've never been disappointed and I've been to some if the best. It's not the greatest in the country but it's the best in Des Moines and would be top 5 in KC.
