NDSU BISON @ Iowa State University Cyclones

One thing I've learned from this thread is that some things from certain years don't count while others do. Just depends on which argument NDSU fans are trying to make.

However these last couple of pages of actual good discussion with the new guys have been refreshing. Just waiting for Lakes to come back in and take a giant dump in here again.

I picture him at his computer just watching and waiting to pounce at the right moment...

In all seriousness though, the issue for NDSU with scheduling Power 5 schools is really when you're talking about the Top tier and lower level power 5 schools. For a school like Oklahoma or Alabama, losing to NDSU (however unlikely) could cost them a shot at a national championship. Why schedule NDSU, if you can get Incarnate Word for the guaranteed win?

For the lower tier schools, losing to NDSU could cost them a shot at a bowl game and be the difference between a 5-7 season and a 6-6 season. That is where ISU finds itself.

I for one have no problem scheduling NDSU and UNI every year (or Drake and UNI in basketball). My way of looking at it, if we can't beat the FCS schools on a certain year, we probably will not end up anywhere near a bowl (as evidenced last year). However, I can see how schools fear the backlash they would get from students if that one loss prevents them from postseason success.

Sad to say this, but you guys might be too good for your own good (and for your own level of play). If anything, losing to ISU would actually help you get more games from the Power 5 conferences. Now I'm sure Lakes will read this and use it as a conspiracy excuse if they lose: "We lost on purpose to help us get more FBS games".

This is spot on. NO P5 should really schedule any FCS traditional powerhouse, the game should be used as more of a preseason/warm up game for P5. That's not the case if you schedule NDSU, unless it's 2009 ;-).

The cost of all games is going up. ISU would find it very difficult to replace NDSU or UNI with a non power5 team. Those teams want huge payouts or a return game. I would rather not be playing at Toledo next year, SJSU in 3 years, or Akron in 5, but we have to do it. I hope the cost if these games goes down with the separation of conferences but who knows what will happen.

Valid question. You could check any of these guys on Gobison.com for a year by year breakdown and click on the name if you want to fact check any of this. I will list starters for those national championship games, therefore not only players that played in 10 of 70 snaps, but played a majority of the game.

2011: 3- Beck (MVP of the championship game as a freshman), Heagle, Dudzik
2012: 5- Beck, Dudzik, Littlejohn, Emanuel, Schaetz (Heagle Hurt this year)
2013: 7- Beck, Dudzik, Littlejohn, Emanuel, Heagle, Smith, and Thorton.

Just to go off this.. as I have mentioned.. Heagle and Dudzik are manning the safety spots.. and they fly to the ball and hit hard!
Beck is a LB.
Littlejohn - LB
Emanuel - DE.. played half the season in 2011
Schaetz- DL
CJ Smith - Corner back
Esley Thorton - LB

As you can see, the LB spot his also held by returning players.

I think that ISU should treat this game like a pre-season NFL game... Play the first stringers sparingly and keep our cards close to the deck. I don't think that our players will play at the same intensity as the Bison which could lead to injuries.... I know that NDSU is well respected but I don't see our team being in the game mentally as evidenced by the UNI game last season.

So, if I have this correct, you're saying to throw the game by playing our backups?

Difference being....preseason NFL games don't count.

I actually thought that was valid information to post on this thread, especially after all the confusion on how many starters the Bison actually did return, as Iowa State fans were ******** (rightfully so) earlier in the thread about all the misinformation floating out there from the bison fans (which is why I joined the thread in the first place). I saw someone thought the Bison lost 17 starters, while it appeared lakes trying to claim the Bison returned everyone because everyone at least played a minute. Bison1 was trying to clarify which positions returned, something that might be useful knowledge about a certain game coming up in less than 2 weeks.

You need to try harder to be clever.

This could be the dumbest post I have ever read on this site, and that includes those made by the author of this thread.

think of it like this...

Many of us got **** faced drunk to Juarez tequila (reading this thread) .... VOWING to never talk about tequila shots again let alone trying something much better like Ocho (responding to anything any Bison may offer) .....

Hey man. I know this ndsu team & strategy inside & out. I have answered all questions. Ndsu held closed scrimmage yesterday no injuries to report and it was very intense. This is going to be a physical game.
Did you post your starting lineup yet? We want to see the starter sizes.
