when we have our pretty fancy house, I'm going to have a wine and cheese party.

Saw a show on PBS today called Wisconsin Foodie. They were at some place in Mineral Springs called Hook's Cheese Company. They have a 15 year old aged cheddar. Can I bring that? It has to be awesome.

Atlanta, right? What did you do there? Sounds like a cool summer job...well, maybe not cool, but fun!

Yeah...definitely not "cool". I was an audio assistant for an electronic news gathering (ENG) team for Atlanta Olympic Broadcasting. There were crews sent out to eevvverrrywhere there was some type of competition...mostly anything that wasn't a) a medal round or b) a very popular sport. (Basketball, gymnastics, track & field) My first two weeks were spent at the shooting venue. (Skeet shooting is when the clay pigeons go left-to-right or vice versa. Trap shooting is when the pigeons fly away from you) Then you have the three different positions for rifle...standing, kneeling, prone...and then all the different distances of how far away the target was. *whew*

What else...spent some time at tennis, rhythmic gymnastics. There's a story that I want to know if it's true. Every videotape was turned over every day, never to be seen by us again. Supposedly, those tapes are stored in a vault in Switzerland, property of the IOC. Our crew came back in the early afternoon, after something like a 5AM call time, and we were asked if we wanted overtime. So we were sent out to some type of equestrian event. I'm standing there with the parabolic mic, and I yawn...big. I turn to realize our camera guy had just caught me doing that. "You weren't taping, were you?"
"Yup."

So I wonder if there's tape of me yawning in a vault in Switzerland.

96 Olympics?! Am I the only one that thought Sara was like, 23?

Yep. Worked there at the age of 5. I was very advanced.

no way!

so we were at the farmer's market last week and got samples from them! I didn't try that cheddar (because getting around 29835987452783 people for samples is a pain) but they had a pesto jack and a couple others I grabbed and it was amazeballs. We didn't get anything cause we had already bought some cheese, but I'm getting their stuff the next time they go.

So, I'm not positive but I think that makes you a super genius. A super genius with a grape stain on her foot.

Yeah the host was talking to one of the owner's, Tony, and showing the cheese making process. Tony said he's got like 55-60 recipes for different types of cheeses in his head.

FYI, the 15 year cheddar goes for like $25 a pound.

I had briefly glanced at their prices when we were there and most seemed to be in the $5-$6 range. I know they had a whole section of cheddar samples, but it's very possible the 15 year wasn't there. I'm not a big sharp cheddar fan so I spent my time trying to fight for the samples I really wanted!

I think I tried the pesto jack, some type of garlic jack, and baby swiss. All three were excellent. I think DH got a monterey jack sample.

Balvenie is solid too. I'm fine with most as long as they're not Speyside.

I prefer smoother and sweeter scotch over the extremely peaty stuff.

Cedar ridge has some single malts which are pretty solid. Obviously not scotch, but good stuff. Also going to be releasing a port wood bourbon this holiday season.

For those that think NASCAR is boring, I would highly recommend tuning into ESPN. After this red flag, it will be some good racing.

those two are going to crash before they surrender the lead. That whole lap was fantastic.

Carl Edawards or Kurt Busch would be a good pick right about now.

Edwards. Busch is too close and would have been taken out. Edwards was back about a car, perfect for getting around their mess.

Your picks are pretty nice today.......provided they finish!
