Concern for next year

What are the odds of McKay playing the whole year? Are we talking 50%? 10% one in a thousand?

Are there any cases like this where he'd be ruled eligible? It does kind of make sense, he'll have at ISU for more than a whole year next fall. Did he actually enroll in any classes first semester last year?

I've heard Jackson is actually pretty solid. I saw a pic of him and Naz after they had gotten done lifting and Jackson is a big guy, pretty cut. If anything you know hes giving a solid look in practice. Maybe he'll get minutes eventually, would be sorta cool.

I've heard that he could definitely go to a mid-major and earn PT. Like you said, a physical guard. Glad he is a Cyclone.

While I am loving the idea of stockpiling the likes of Darien Williams and possibly Anderson/Hollowell for two years down the road, I'm wondering about our available bodies for next year.

We have 11 scholarship players set for 14-15. One is McKay, out until semester. That makes 10. Nader likely faces a suspension to start the season and who knows for how long - that makes 9 for a while.

Leaves little margin for error, such as an injury, academic casualty, freak illness, foul trouble, etc.

We can be great next year - I'd hate to jeopardize that with low scholarship numbers.

So we have threads with people worrying that we have too much talent coming in, and threads with people worrying that we have talent coming at the wrong time. Good offseason.

I think alot of whats going on just goes against everything we have ever seen or followed with recruiting. The landscape has changed...and it changed really really fast. So even though we see it working...its sometimes still hard to grasp how easily it appears to be working.

I have no problem admitting a year ago i didnt know what the ceiling was on recruiting players in this fashion would be. Concerns about cohesion on short notice transfers, Acquiring players with "history" so to speak, if we could really sustain a high level of play this way.

Credit...all the credit to CFH. He really has set a huge trend in college basketball not only with how hes recruiting but also just in general play on the floor.

Its insane to think that we are now in positions where really good players may turn us down now...because there are just not a ton of minutes for them. And that we can honestly...not wishful miracle thinking....we can honestly look at making conference and national title runs.

Back up the Brinks truck....and in my best Teddy KGB voice...."Pay dis man his money"

Very slim. He was at Marquette for the first semester last year and the rule is you have to be at your new school for a year before you can play, barring a hardship of some sorts. Since he's publicly stated that his reason for leaving wasn't hardship related I would be shocked if a waiver is granted. And it won't have anything to do with the NCAA hating ISU, the rule is pretty clear in these instances.

I don't see a major reason to be concerned at this point, since we don't know most of the non-conference schedule yet. Depending on how much Nader misses, and how much he contributes, ISU may have some difficulty with some of the early tournament games, Iowa, and whoever the SEC opponent turns out to be. But there may be trouble with those games anyway with ISU still trying to work new players into the system.

It would be nice to think ISU would got 14-0 to start the season next year, but I doubt that will happen. Still, by the end of the year, I would expect this to be a team that could make a pretty deep run in the Big 12 tourney, and the NCAA.

Nothing to worry about though.

Even if we drop an early game or two (not expecting it, just saying) it's not so critical.

For example, look at KU. They lost like 6 pre-conference games, then tore it up in the conference. Then were being looked at strongly for a #1 seed before Embiid went down and they lost their edge.

Not saying 2014 ISU is the same as 2013 KU, just explaining that it is not that critical to be unblemished in the non conference.

Once Jones gets in the flow and McKay hits the court over the holidays, I think we could be seeing a conference championship caliber team. Crossing fingers and hoping for no more injuries, suspensions or other downers.

Love or not, there is a lot of history - too much to catalogue here - of the NCAA pulling no punches when it comes to player eligibility at ISU.

Has the waiver been submitted yet? It was not submitted as of three weeks ago.

The only way McKay will be able to play first semester is if the NCAA makes a mistake. He left on his own and wasn't able to enroll in classes until second semester this year. The best case scenario would if his professors allowed him to take his finals on dead week and submitted his final grades. Once grades are posted he is eligible! I know they allow foreign students to take exams early, hopefully they will with McKay too.

The NCAA has approved waivers that made less sense than McKay's. I can't remember his name but he played at UCLA for 2 years then transferred to Georgetown or something and his waiver was approved. And it wasn't due to moving close to home either.

I've heard it's already been turned down but they haven't announced it yet.

I don't know Josh Smith's case, but he didn't find out he was available to play right away until October. Like I said I don't know his case and every case may be different.

Bottom line Naz just needs to hit 8 3's every game until we're at full strength. Bottom line.
