Sorry, but this is lame. A reasonable argument can be made either way. There are a number of great ISU players that do not have their jerseys retired.

Not applying this to Ejim, but count me in the camp that thinks retiring jerseys should be for the elite of the elite (I feel the same way for baseball Hall of Fame, etc.).

Was a good player for four years. Not a focal point on offense. Hoiberg admitted he only had a small section of plays for him.

He was a great cyclone. But not worthy of hanging from the rafters. Save it for our best players.

Big 12 player of the Year. Big 12 Champion. Sweet Sixteen team. Most Starts. Top 12 scoring, top 3 rebounds. If anyone deserves it is Melvin. If you don't think so then shut the hell up.

There's a lot of posts out there for why not. I'm not going to talk about why not now, because it's time right to congratulate Mel on an amazing career.

For sure it's not going to happen for several years even if it does so can we stop bringing up this thread on a monthly basis. Let's debate it 3-4 years from now. If people are still as convinced in four years as they are now then I'll concede and say hang it up.

Saying it's a no brainer and to shut the hell up is ******** though.

Per40 stats are as good as Hoibergs. Stop it with you degradation of his POY award. If Kane or Niang were thought to be more productive by coaches, they would have gotten it. If you don't put his up you will never have justification for another one.

The hate is heavy, huh? Fred would probably also admit that with out Mel we probably don't get into the tournament the last two years. His numbers in conference play are phenomenal!

Rafter worthy players show up for Sweet 16 games. He made the coaches of all Big 12 teams look like fools for the last 4 games of his career. Fantastic 4 year player. Hang his pencil in Parks, but he doesn't deserve the rafters of Hilton.
