***OFFICIAL SELECTION SUNDAY THREAD***

I don't think whether we deserve a 2 seed is that obvious. An objective argument could be made either way- to put us at 2 or 3. Really depends on which stats you choose to consider in your argument, and how you weigh each of those stats. Overall Record? SOS? RPI? Head to Head? Home-Away Record? Record against top 25? Against top 50?

I mean we're arguing minor details as any resume is fairly good at this level, but looking at the teams ESPN has listed above using the rpi comparison tool on cbs's site:

Michigan- Almost equal top 50 (9-5 to 10-4) about even on top 25 (2-2 to 5-4). Even in 51-100. We dont have an (albeit early) loss to a team anywhere near as bad as charlotte. Even writing charlotte off i say these records are a tie. Tiebreaker: we beat them.
Duke - comparable top 50 and top 25 wins (9-5, 6-5\ 2-2, 5-4) Worst loss of WVU is equal to their loss to clemson, but they also add on sub-100 losses to wake forest and notre dame
Villanova - comprarable record vs the top 50 (9-5 vs 6-3) 2-2 vs top 25 to Nova's 1-3 (and none of those 3 were close at all). Our worst loss is a top 100 WVU. Nova's is Seton Hall. Coparable away records, we beat them in neutral record.
Wisconsin comparable record top 25 and top 50 as well (we have slight edge 9-5 vs 7-5). They have a sub 100 loss to northwestern
Kansas- if not for embiid's issues they'd probably be a 1 seed. Theyve taken on a number of losses and gotten beaten up for it, but theyve also got a ton of quality wins.

And honestly wichita state should be a 3 seed for never having played anyone worth a damn. The NCAA talks all day every year about how teams need to schedule tough in the noncon, yet they get away with not doing that even though they also have a cake conference schedule? 3 teams inside the top 70 in an entire season. I dont care if they are undefeated, we'd likely be undefeated with that garbage schedule too.

isnt bowlsby still on the selection committee? He needs to make this 2 seed thing happen.

I don't know if he's on it, I'm pretty sure he had some sort of leadership role on it back in the day that makes me associate him with the committee.

Probably our best case for a two is that the two teams right ahead of us both lost in their conference semi-final while we won the championship. With the strength of the Big 12, I think a proper reward would be two 2's and bump Wisconsin to a 3.

I can't believe how much respect the Big 10 is still getting. The Big 10 has 4 teams getting a 5 seed or better, while the Big 12 only has 2 teams getting a 5 seed or better. I don't get it? The Big 10 was not that good this year.

I guess the Big 12 is getting in 7 out of 10 teams though, whereas the Big 10 is only getting 6 out of 12 in. So the Big 12 is a much deeper conference, while the Big 10 just has a few good teams.

With the demise of the Big 12 Network next year, get used to having the conference pumped up by ESPN as we move completely under the umbrella of their various networks. ABC/ESPN subtly promotes the hell out of their properties.

You answered your own question. Big 12 isn't as top heavy as the Big 10. But much deeper IMHO. So they will get a couple higher seeds - we will get the most teams.

Random Predictions and/or Wild Guesses:

- ISU a #3 in San Antonio facing New Mexico St.
- Villanova ends up with the last #1.
- Louisville seeded far higher than their numbers deserve (justified by the committee with "eye-test").
- K-State in the play-in round. Maybe a little bold, but they have two red flags that the committee likes to emphasize: no significant road wins, and a bad non-con SOS.

About that- the Big 10 only seems that way because they play an uneven schedule with many more non-NCAA teams.

New Mexico State has that huuuuuuuuuuuuuge dude. Anyone see him yesterday? I mean he looks like a WWF villain from the 80s. Bigger than Cameron Ridley.

Heres my analysis of this whole deal.

Louisville should be under consideration for a 2-3 seed. They are 29-5 with a SOS of 108. There's a reason that Pitino is petitioning he knows the he wants to be as high as possible as his team has not faced good competition all year and the easier the road the better his chances.

You stack Michigan, Iowa State and Louisvilles resumes beside each other and hands down Michigan and ISU appear as the better selection for a 1-2 seed. Louisville to me is a #3 seed. Yes their hot but then again which conference title is more respected big 10, big 10 or the american?

How are the SOS rankings compiled? In the BPI we have the 3 hardest schedule and in the RPI we have the 25th toughest schedule. Michigan has the 10th toughest schedule with 1 less win then us and their being considered as a 1 seed. Here's to me the seeds of the top 4:
#1: Florida, Wichita St, Arizona & Kansas (If Embiid is available, they deserve the 1).
#2: Micigan, Villanova, Duke, ISU (Not good for us as i do not want to be in Floridas bracket)
#3: Louisville, Wisconsin, Creighton, Virginia
#4: Syracuse, Michigan St, UCLA, Kentucky

Thats my seeding....

You think he's big look at the center for UC Irvine....now that dude is BIG!!!!

Without knowing who we would play, would you rather be the last 2 seed getting a distant location, or a 3 seed playing close to home?

I think most folks want a 2 seed because it would be St. Louis...

The 3 seed locations are: buffalo, San Antonio, Orlando and Raleigh..

2 seed we have a shot at St. Louis or Milwaukee

There is no 3 seed close to Iowa, though.
The only locations with a 3 seed are Buffalo, San Antonio, Raleigh, and Orlando.
The 2 seed locations that would be ideal are St. Louis and Milwaukee.
A 2 seed in one of those 2 locations would be GOLD.

It seems to me perhaps the BigXII tourney will be a tougher three games than what we face ahead. I hope we come out and keep this ball rolling. Playing high quality teams that you have already played 2ce in the same year is harder to win than teams that aren't used to your spacing and three headed attack. But it is all up to those guys, come out and execute we will be fine.

We will be a 3 seed.
