Matt Abdelmassih's Quotes

Nader will be newcomer of the year next season, and I don't even consider that a bold prediction

I think McKay will be since he will be playing before the conference season starts. The other coaches will get to see both him and Nader on the floor at the same time, so Nader won't get all of the limelight by that time.

If McKay doesn't fight him for it.

Only if McKay has is available for the first semester, then I would agree that he'll be favorite NCOY.
Since I don't expect that to happen the smart money should be on Nader to have the best chance for the award today. As for why... Year in Freds system and his shooting advice, unique skill set and size, rumor nuggets leaking out that he is producing in practice.
(Plus his Nick-name was the Electric Egyptian in HS, which should be a crowd/reporter pleaser.)

The name to look for is Demetrius Treadwell from Akron. He is listed as a senior but has one more year of eligibility and would be eligible right away. Played against him in Hawaii

He was a tough kid. Wasn't he more of a post? I can't recall

Not bold at all. In fact, I would say that right now, he is easily one of the front runners to win the award (insanely early, I totally realize that). Based off of Iowa State's track record though, I'm not sure why he wouldn't be.

Matt: "For all the fans who like to throw around the idea of rebuilding...I'll say this...they should probably wait until April, May or June because we are always going to add a DeAndre Kane to our current group of tremendous players."

I'll take this as meaning a 5th year impact transfer, not Wooden award conversation type player. Kane type players don't just grow on trees.

And I think Matt means what Deandre was when he decided to come to ISU. Nobody predicted him to be as good as he has been, but he was supposed to be a starter and a major contributor. Nobody really knew.

Tree Treadwell is a 6'7" forward.

And IIRC, he's a big dude. Like the type of guy that you want on your side if you find yourself in a scuffle.

Obvious total speculation, but if he's here next year, Fred may adjust the way he plays, specifically on defense. Hogue, McKay, and Treadwell down low looks more like a KSt lineup.
