Emmanuel Malou

I wonder if he doesn't have access to other forms of financial aid as long as he is not an active player. I believe that back in Mac's time there was a football player from Ames (Kohler?). He was getting other forms of aid while he was a walk-on squad member. Later in his career, he had to choose between seeing the field as a special teams player vs giving up his financial aid. I'm not sure if the policies are still the same or if they also apply to basketball.

Can't be officially recruited. Bubu wasn't officially recruited so he could receive academic aid I believe. I would guess most walkons fall under that umbrella.

Yes walkons can get financial aid. I had Pell grants and ISU grants before I earned a scholarship.

Nope it was 100% what I was told by someone very close to Malou.
Yes, that someone close being included in the insider label. Given Fred's comments last night and the fact basketball is a two-semester sport, that person very well could have mistakenly termed the situation as a greyshirt when a McLemore type situation was brought up in regards to Malou.

I do not see him being on scholarship only second semester. Either he is a on scholarship in the fall, or he will not be at ISU until 2015 at the earliest, as I do not see us keeping a spot open in the fall semester.

It's very possible that some of his classes in Australia wouldn't pass the NCAA clearinghouse while still allowing him admission into the University.
A Texas Tech might count those Aussie classes as life experiences for credit....

Jake and Jess talked a lot about foreign players on the Monday Rebound show. Sounds like it's harder to get foreign guys now than it was 20 years ago. Just because of NCAA clearing.

They play their home games at whatever des Moines city park they can find. They set up concession stands in public bathrooms where they sell ramen noodles out of far stall. Complimentary cup of toilet water with each noodle purchase.

Not funny. Especially when you're referring to where one of our recruits plays.

1. Malou has been to a ton of home games this year and was supposed to be at the last one but couldn't make it for some reason.
2. Freddy is/was going to watch him play tonight I believe?
3. People have congratulated him on twitter and have said they can't wait to watch him play for ISU next season and he has responded back as if that is the case also

My point being, I know the academic issues could be a problem but do you think we're blowing them out of proportion? I don't think any of us really know the situation and if Freddy has offered/going to watch Malou play and has had Malou check out a lot of home games this season, it seems like there is definitely strong interest from both parties. And I'm not sure that would be the case if there were academic problems as severe as some people have been talking about. Anyways, I think Malou ends up being a cyclone and eligible to play immediately just based on reading between the lines.

No way! People blowing things out of proportion on this forum!? (I am guilty too)
