Possible candidates for ISU's open OC position...

If we are going to double up a coach on positions, we better not be hiring our OC from inside. Doubling up positions should give us more money for a good OC.
This is just my feeling. I think Day has been doung a great job on the trail in the Chicago big 10 country helping land our #2 and #3 best recruits this year and thought I heard Rhoads was creating a "recruiting director position". As for Klenakis we just started putting in the pistol. This is a more unique offense in the big 12. Could give us an identity he wants with a good run first mentality. He went half in with bringing klenakis on board but not all in by giving him the reigns. I think Rhoads may opt to see this one through and double down. I think strohmeir makes sense but not sure if it will happen, this more wishful thinkung on my part. Bringing in Sage or Flynn makes sense as a posituon coach and mentor to our qbs. These guys need grooming.

My prediction:
Klenakis OC OL
Strohmeier Asst. HC QB or RB coach
Derrick Day recruiting coordinator
Sturdy recievers & t.ends
Sage or Flynn RB or QB Coach.

I could be wrong, but I think that we'd be better off if Day wasn't the recruiting coordinator so he could be on the road more. Dude could use a promotion though.

Tom Osborne had a hand in helping set up the football program.

IWCC’s sudden ascent surprises Osborne - Omaha.com

No doubt he had connections so the school could get the best JC talent.

I'd still be interested in their coach as OC.

the linked article said:
Iowa Western ran the table in 2012, winning its 12 games by an average of 50 points.

That line jumped out at me, considering some of us think it's a big deal that the men's basketball team beat the last 2 opponents by an average of 44 points. IWCC football did that and then some for the entire season!

I still want to go after Bob Cole from Northern Illinois. Throw some cash at him.

We wouldn't have to run Sam and Grant as much as Lynch but it's obvious he knows how to scheme a good running game.

Strohmeier is a bit intriguing. I totally forget he is the Head Coach at Iowa Western. I actually work as the SID at Minnesota Crookston where Scott was a QB back in the 90s. I know the name well because he is all over our record books. He has definitely done an amazingly good job turning IWCC into a premier Community College program. I would prefer the Christensen route at this point, but not saying Strohmeier would be a bad hire, at all.

I personally would like to see Christensen and then it would be nice to maybe see a former Cyclone in the RB role in some way. Either Flynn or Blythe or something to that extent. Just because they didn't play that position, doesn't mean they can't coach it.

When Reese Morgan was recruitung director for Iowa he also worked the instate recruits. Figured this wiuld be the same set up. He just keeps chicago.

How's about this guy? His HC just took the Washington job, and he's done well as the OC. Thoughts?

Robert Prince Bio - Boise State University Official Athletic Site

I think Prince is widely known by Boise fans as someone they'd desperately want to get rid of. He's kind of ridden on the coattails.

I know he doesn't have any Iowa ties, but I love the offense Dino Babers employees at Eastern Illinois. Don't know if he'd leave a successful FCS head coach job for a OC at Iowa State though.

I don't know why, but I just have a feeling it is going to be Klenakis and then possibly bring in Sage as a QB coach and then either hire another RB coach or promote Day.

I would be surprised and disappointed if the hire ends up internal. CPR tried that and failed with Messingham. Boosters will not be satisfied with a promotion. Then, if it doesn't work out quickly enough, CPR is in more trouble.

A new hire from outside the program will garner more good will and probably get more benefit of the doubt.

CPR is a smart guy. He doesn't make all of this decisions based on emotion. He knows this hire will have a huge effect on his career and he knows he needs it to be perceived as a good hire.

I will bet money that does not happen. First of all, Sage has NFL experience playing but not experience in coaching. They are not interchangeable. Not all players make good coaches. And while Sage may end up being a good coach, I doubt that CPR is going to hire him as a QB coach. Next comes Klenakis. IDK, I just don't see us promoting someone to OC from within the staff. Been there. Done that. Doubt if it happens this time. The promotion of Day is a possibility. Most likely of the three.

I dont know. I am not convinced klenakis wouldnt be the best hire for next year. Rhoads cant afford to think long term he has to have a decent year next year and a complete iverhaul of system would take a bigger toll next year even if it paid if the long term. We spent half of this year adjusting to the pistol. A new system takes time and makes guys slower and make more mistakeas as they have to think too much. Klenakis has a good record that fits philosophically with rhoads. I think he may be our best shot at better results next year but I base this on very limited info. Rhoads will have an idea if he is up to it. Klenakis is not mess. Mess was in over his head.

This is pretty much my feeling. Except If bliel gets out too their is one more spot. Which I would like to see be strohmeir. Have him be co OC and QB coach and day rb coach and sage recruiting crd. and TE

It wouldn't surprise me either if it was Klenakis. CPR saw the writing on the wall for Mess after the 2012 season. We were barely into the 2013 season and he was throwing Mess under the bus. Why bring in an OL coach and put in his pistol offense for just 1 yr?

For those of you who want to see Hal Mumme's SMU offense in action, they're playing on ESPN right now. I've seen his name brought up on our message boards as a potential OC candidate.

i have my doubts it's going to be Klenakis, Didn't anyone see the way CPR and him were yelling at each other at the last game. I think Klenakis is a good coach but i have a feeling that there might be some friction between the two. And CPR knows this next hire has too be a solid one that will have a good working relationship with.

June Jones calling the plays for SMU today. You gotta remember that June Jones is an accomplished play caller in his own right. It was interesting to hear that both June and Hal have called plays this yr and the other one is in control of adjustments.

Anyway I just wanted to say that the SMU Offense is not Hal's Offense it is a combo of June's Run and Shoot and Hal's Air Raid.

Guys as fiery as Rhoads and Klenakis could be best friends and still yell at each other daily while coaching football.

there are a few boosters (big ones) who did not want Mess fired- they like him and felt the year was an anomaly. Hearing from the same guys that Klenakis could very well be the guy. No idea about QB Coach. None of that is what will happen- just what they hear could happen

Not my take- just FWIW
