Brands is looking for someone to pick on so that he feels better about Penn St winning yet another national title this year. It just happens that we are that someone...

There's a reason highly ranked Iowa guys tend to totally flame out if they lose an early match at NCAAs. Through their coaches they literally do not know how to deal with losing. It happens once and they are just totally broken. Happened to McDonough last year.

Hey Brands remember when Varner majored Beatty and taunted you by signalling that he broke him? Good times..

It was an injury that was with him all season that was a "not gonna get any better, not gonna get any worse" thing. You can argue that the injury is why he lost that first match and I wouldn't fight you on it. The injury didn't cause him to then totally flame out of the tournament as lots of other top ranked Iowa wrestlers have as soon as they lose their shot at the finals.
This rivalry became less competitive after:
1) Brands' wrestlers followed him to Iowa City
2) Cael's wrestlers followed him to College Station
Those 2 significant swings in talent shouldn't be overlooked when we wonder why we've struggled to challenge Iowa on the mat.
Yeah, for all the "it was the injury" talk McDonough never was rested once the entire season.
They're also very senior heavy while we are very underclassman heavy. Next season I think we get them. They lose a lot of firepower and the only two seniors we lose have guys right behind them that are at just about the same level.

Brands is a terrible coach if you can even call him that. Id call him more of a modern day slave driver coaching up a bunch of thugs. It works, he gets results, if thats all you care about. Hes not shaping his guys into well rounded athletes who excel both on the mat and in the classroom and leave respectable young men who are a class act and will be successful in life after wrestling. Thats why I like Kevin Jackson and the program hes building here after Cael gave up and skipped out of town because all he cared about was winning. He didnt want to put in the work maintaining a first class program like Jackson is doing after the Cael debacle and Rhoads is doing after the Chizik fiasco. Brands has no class and is just another hawk thug.
Their recruiting classes are consistently better than ours and they are loaded for bear for the forseeable future. Ramos graduates? No problem...bring on Thomas Gilman. Lofthouse? In comes Sam Brooks who as a true frosh beat Beard last season. They are going to dust us on Sunday starting just 3 seniors and with their 4th ranked junior HWT and 10th rated soph 197 watching from the sidelines. We will narrow the gap but a win is doubtful at this point.

Thank you for posting dribble so that it appears you have no idea what you're talking about. The only reason I dislike Brands is because he's doing what Cael was doing at ISU before he left. Rebuilding a powerhouse. KJ is getting better at it, but wasn't the fire that TB or CS were at their respective schools. Iowa wrestlers aren't "thugs," just way more aggressive than a lot of teams.
