At this point in time, what is there to be positive about? The defense is trying hard, and played pretty well today, but the offense is horrible, and if there is some glimmer of hope out there, it is pretty well hidden right now.
What is really frustrating about today is with 2 lousy minutes left in the game and up by 3 and with the ball, no one on ISU could make that play to end to game. Not the offense, not the punter, not the defense.
3 months ago most posters were predicting 5-7 wins for Rhoads. What if Fred only wins 15? I have no doubt posters would turn on him.
Building a program takes time. There will be down years.
Mathematically, the real comparison would be single digits wins for Fred. You bet there would be questions and negativity, and they'd be well deserved.
I get that building a program takes time, but you don't bottom out like this in year 5. The criticism is well deserved.
For the record, comparing Rhoads and Hoiberg is apples and oranges. Hoiberg is competitive within the Big 12, Rhoads is not. Hoiberg has winning seasons in the Big 12, Rhoads has not. Conference records of 3-5, 3-5, 3-6, 3-6 and 0-6 in football do not compare to 3-13, 12-6, 11-7 in basketball.
Anyone that predicted more than 4 wins with what was coming back doesn't know football.
Are you just blowing off steam? Dreading going to work on Monday and facing Hawkeye/other co-workers - that sort of thing? Trying to convince other CyFanatics that things are worse than they seem?
Maybe I'm just not passionate enough, or maybe I'm just getting old, or it's that I believe in moral victories, but I mostly just feel for the players and others associated with the program.
I didn't see the whole game today (family stuff) but I saw quite a bit of it.
I was proud of the players and fans. And the score doesn't change that a bit.
Go Cyclones!
the players are getting thier educations paid for and the coached are making more money than 95% of the people on this board are. it is not ******* everyone gets to play pee wee football anymore. we spend thousands of dollars each to watch and support this team. when they are returning that investment with a gigantic pile of steaming ****, the fans have a right to be 'negative'.
Simply put, ISU fans deserve much, much better than this crap. The very least that should be afforded them is to criticize as much as they want.
FIFY-- while the D doesn't get a complete pass, they have performed well enough at times this season for us to have won a few more games -- they've been on the field far too long, AGAIN, this year.Anger is the first stage that leads to apathy.
CPR needs to take immediate (and I think he will) to clean house of offensive assistants and get the program on track.
What's more annoying, the over the top pessimism and anger of some or the nutless bleeding hearts swooning over moral victories with their "get 'em next year!" mentality?
Don't wax poetic on me about how much it sucks to be an ISU fan because you give "so much" and the results don't match your expectations. We've only recently even begun to be mediocre in our support of the football program. We are getting EXACTLY what, historically, we should be getting. If all you are seeking in your football "investments" is a short-term return on investment, go donate to Alabama and cheer for them. Until then, stop embarrassing yourself and this fan base by having a mental breakdown every time we lose.
