NFL: ***Vikings fans 2013 NFL Draft headquarters***

I think there are a lot of people who are just going with the general media opinion established after the national title game that Teo is garbage. And at that point, they were right. He was not worth a top 5 pick at all. Not even close.

That being said, he is a MUCH better fit at 23 or 25. Teo isn't going to be the only NFL player on his team playing another team that completely outmatches his in athletic talent.

He has tons of leadership ability, he is smartest on field ILB in the draft, he has the best on field instincts in the draft, and he had 7 picks last year (whether that was skill or luck is up for debate).

I'm not saying I want him a ton or anything. I would rather have Arthur Brown because I think that he is a stud and is smart, athletic, and hits like a ton of bricks. If he were two inches taller he would go top 10. I'm just saying I'm not going to kill myself if they take Teo.

Look at this dude: Vontaze Burfict Draft Profile vs Teo: Manti Te'o Draft Profile

Burfict started all year for the Bengals and he had 127 tackles. If he can get 127 tackles, Teo can be a good player.

It isn't going to doom the franchise taking an immediate starter with the 23rd freaking pick in the draft, if it even happens. Put your pitchforks down.

Also, any situation where the Vikings would trade up would have to be extraordinary to make any sense.

The problem I have with Te'o is that the Vikes play the Packers and Lions twice a year...they spread you out and throw the ball...from what I've heard (I'm no draft expert), Te'o's coverage skills are not great and he's not fast enough to keep with anyone except a normal TE...

I also hope they don't take Cordarrelle Patterson...I don't think he's proven anything yet and sounds like he could have bust potential...

Honestly, I think the reason the vikings are drafting an ILB because their current one couldn't cover at all. To draft one they will be absolutely sure that they can keep him on the field on 3rd and medium and other situations where you might not want to go nickel. It all depends on the teams evaluation. A lot of people say his instincts make up for his lack of speed. He did have 7 picks last year, which is insane.

I'm not a fan boy or anything, just trying to talk people off the ledge.

I'm not a huge Te'o fan but this guy was a top 5 NFL pick prior to his fake girlfriend coming back from the dead. If the Vikings take him, I could see it turning out very similar to when everyone passed on Randy Moss b/c of his issues and they later regretted it. Personally I don't think he's that talented (in comparison to Moss) but he did have 7 INT's this past year and was thought of as a good leader/teammate. I would have no issue if the Vikings take him.

Moss was a physical freak with an insane upside. You knew if you took him that he had the raw talent to be one of the greatest WR to ever play the game.

I watched a lot of Manti over the last year. I just don't see it. If they do go that route, hopefully I'm wrong.

Having said all of that, he's probably a fairly safe pick. I can't see him being a complete and total bust. But I don't ever see him being a 5 time Pro Bowler either.

God, I hope the Vikings aren't stupid enough to draft Te'o. A big mistake.

I am not even a Viking fan but I live here in the Twin Cities and do not want him here. With his NFL money and fame, how will I ever be able to hang onto my imaginary French girlfriend, Monique? He will try and take her away from me; I just know he will.

:wideeyed:

Top 25 guys in positions of need are (roughly in order):
Floyd DT
Lotulelei DT
Milliner CB
Austin WR
Warmack G
Cooper G
Richardson DT
Vaccaro S
Hayden CB
Williams DT
Ogletree ILB
Te’o ILB
Trufant CB
Rhodes CB

Provided they don't trade down I would be happy with any two from that list. There is almost no chance of them being able to get the top four, but beyond that any of them could fall to 23/25. The one I would be least happy with is Te'o, but if they take him at 25 the value is fine and it is their biggest position of need. No he will not likely be a star in the NFL, but if he is even a solid two down NFL MLB that can play as a rookie that is fine at that pick. Ogletree is probably the only three down 4-3 middle linebacker in the draft and he has so many questions around him who knows. My hope is actually that they trade down pick 25 and pick up Minter 5 to 10 spots later.

I think Hunter, Patterson, Allen, Woods, and Hopkins at WR are all second round type guys because of various problems. But if one from that group really stands out to Spielman it would be alright at 25.

If at either WR or ILB they don't get one in the first two rounds they will probably take two at that position in the middle rounds. A guy like Klein comes to mind.

Ok, nobody regrets passing on the guy that put the dog in dogazz.

The Vikings telling all the media they want to trade up for Teo is hilarious to me. Just like they really wanted Claiborne last year?

yeah, Spielman seems to like play the misinformation game. He had an interview last week where he insisted that the Vikings were definitely NOT interested in moving up, but would consider moving down. Now, he's changed his tune. He's a sly one, that Rick.

I saw someone saying that any news about a team trying to move down or up is nonsense, because every single team has explored moving up or down and tested the waters and what they would have to pay/would receiver to do so.

Of course, every team would be willing to trade up if their guy dropped enough and if they grade 5 players equally, they would love to trade down 3-5 spots and pick up another pick or two. It is all conditional. If Dee Milliner slips due to injury and gets to 15 or 16, maybe the Vikings would trade up for him (random example), but trading up for Teo seems unlikely to me when he is certainly not a unique ILB talent. That would dissapoint me, not just taking him at 23 or 25.

I'd like Sylvester Williams with that first pick, and the best available corner with the second.

Agree with whomever said to look for Terrance Williams in the second or third round, and I'd also like to see Klein as a 3rd or 4th rounder.

I agree with everything in this post.

I'll just go ahead and give a prediction so I can laugh at how wrong I was later:

The Vikings take DT Richardson, DT Williams, CB Rhodes, CB Hayden at #23 if they are available (in that order) OR someone who is very highly rated and slips for some unexpected reason. If that happens they could trade this pick back due to the demand that player would create.

The Vikings then trade down with either San Fran (tons of picks, not a lot of roster space) to #34, or trade down with a QB need team who wants to take Geno Smith, Nassib, or whoever they like. This could be: Jacksonville at #33, Philly at #35, Arizona at #38, NYJ at #39, Buffalo at #41. Basically the whole early 2nd round needs a QB and could want to trade up to get one since none are worth of a top 15 pick. This could create a bidding war as well and the Vikings could really make out well.

Then with their two 2nd round picks, the Vikings pick one of the WRs like Patterson, Hopkins, Allen, Woods, Hunter and the best ILB available whether is is Brown, Teo, Minter, or Ogletree (who will likely be gone by then).

A couple weeks ago I heard the Bears were interested in Teo and I laughed hoping they'd take him. Now I hear the Vikes might be interested in him and I cry worried this could happen.

I just can't imagine cheering from someone I can't respect...no matter how good he might turn out to be.

I think the most important thing for the Vikings to do is to get the best value at their draft position. With the way I am thinking it will go, we will get a DT and a CB. Hopefully Williams for DT and Hayden for CB or Rhodes. There is no wideout that will be good enough to take at our spot. I am thinking Patterson and Austin will be gone and everyone after that is not great value.

I am hoping in the second round we can catch luck and get one of the wideouts such as Allen, Hunter, Woods or Hopkins. All very good choices. It will be key that the Vikings get value players in round 2 and 3.
