Any chance Texas is still in Play for the Big 10? Add the smaller market teams first so Texas can't bring their Baggage (Tech) with them.

Please think before you type. I can't tell if your brain is set on paranoid or crazy.

It wouldn't surprise me, honestly. The reality is that the B1G is increasingly a cable company that owns some collegiate sports properties. There is one huge national football brand that is potentially available, Notre Dame, and we know how much they pine to bring the Domers on board. What market would be the 16th and final market for B1G?

Of course, with the Big XII GOR and presuming ESPN's checks for the LHN don't bounce, there isn't really a reasonable scenario to make this happen. But maybe in another 10 years or so...

Why are people so sure the Big 10 teams are okay with adding a Maryland and a Rutgers? Yeah, they add a few households to the bottom line, but if I'm Ohio State or Michigan, I'm not on board with picking up bottom of the barrel athletics schools to add to what is already a shaky football conference after you get past the top teams.

As for any Texas team joining the Big 10, why would would any of them want to play a majority of their post October road games in frigid weather year after year. Unless a whole cluster of Texas teams go, that ain't hapennin.

The SEC has proven consistently that they are better off as a league when top teams can avoid beating each other up and the rest of their schedule allows them to get a couple teams to 11-1. Every league has bottom feeders, it's just that in this case everyone knows UMD is going to be it right from the get-go. B1G wants them for their cable subscribers, and they are cool with that.

Is KSU keen on the round robin with a top ten SOS this year, when a top 30 sked might have them cruising to the MNC?

These are considerations that must be made.

Wouldn't you think if this scenario happened it might hurt Texas recruiting since they would be traveling a long distance? They do get to play inside their own state for five games. They could not guarantee a lot of games in Texas like they do now. I just honestly think it would be a lose lose for them and to not freak out about it. If anything teams will want to come to our conference not the other way.

Texas has so little to gain by joining the Big 10 that I don't see any way it happens. They will get none of their TV money for the next 13 years and will not play any in-state teams. They will be in a league that isn't good at football and requires a ton of travel.

If they were in danger of losing their seat at the table, or short on cash, it would make sense. But they aren't. Texas has yet to make a seemingly illogical move in all of this, and I don't see them starting here.

The big twelve will not be the one getting picked on, if anything they are going to do the picking if they want to expand.

You dont need to remind me Under Amor's founder is a Maryland Alum/ booster but did he ever say he was spending all his money on Maryland's athletics?? I didnt get that memo....What type of return on investment will he get?? I know this guy built his program off Maryland athletics but I highly doubt hes so thankful he will give them ALL his money, and even if he did I'm sure he would be pumped to have all his money spent on getting out of the ACC which maryland has built great bball rivalries with Duke and UNC just to get to the big ten to play northwestern, purdue, etc. in football?

I have a gut feeling that this domino is next, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them follow UMD into the Big Ten. Jim Delany has strong ties to UNC (played basketball and got his law degree there, met his wife there, kids go there, etc.), and they'd undoubtedly be a tremendous asset to the Big Ten. I would not be at all shocked if UNC along with UVA were the next two to be poached by the Big Ten; they have a rivalry, both are excellent academic institutions (AAU public schools), both are in growing states that offer a lot of strategic advantages to the Big Ten, etc. Hell, I wouldn't be at all shocked if the only reason they picked up UMD was to create a "bridge" to Virginia and North Carolina, since having contiguous states is apparently very important to the conference.

If it comes to pass, you heard it here first (probably not)!

The only thing is this round (as well as subsequent rounds for at least the next decade) are a lot more "fun" for ISU and the other "smaller" schools of the Big 12. Thanks to the GOR, the Big 12 is in a position of power and the fans can discuss which schools the conference might take instead of which conference might have mercy on us smaller schools. I know there's the traditionalists that are happy at 10 and don't want to change. It might be better to strike now and take a few less dollars for a few years but land the final death blow to the ACC instead of standing pat and being happy with what we have now, allowing the ACC to survive at a relative strength roughly equal to the Big 12 (because with UNC still in the ACC it's not all that dissimilar from the Big 12), and then a decade from now something unforeseen happens where the big schools of the Big 12 jump to the ACC, leaving ISU out in the cold. I absolutely agree that the GOR is a powerful thing, but its a hell of a lot more imposing with 13 years left on it than with 3, and if the ACC is still around then and somehow positions itself to be more desirable than the Big 12 then, then ISU is in a bad spot. I just think it might be better to kill the ACC now, even if it means a few less million dollars a year for a few years.

I've just been sitting back and watching it all unfold but I think this is the logic I'm leaning towards as well. Be at the top of the food chain rather than at the bottom which means killing off the ACC when the chance arises. Why let them stick around which eventually may come back to bite you in the ***?

If UNC goes, along with one other team, it won't be Duke. It will be NC State! Remember when Virginia got their hand forced when VPI got into the ACC? North Carolina's politics are just as dirty as Virginias's. There's no way NC State's alumni and friends in the legislature would let UNC leave and get a giant pay day while leaving NC State behind. NC State is also an AAU school with an awesome fan base. It would be a better fit with the Big 10 than the Terps. The only way UNC goes to the Big 10 w/out NC State is if NC State has already bolted for the SEC with VPI.

Virginia is a great university, but they would struggle to even get wins in the Big 10. They just aren't that good. Also, the Big 10 doesn't have Lacrosse.

Duke might have the worst football stadium attendance of any automatic qualifier team in the country. They have to sell tickets to games with the same stunts the minor league baseball teams do. Also, the Big 10 doesn't have Lacrosse (see Virginia).

Lastly, Maryland's "rivalry" with UNC and Duke doesn't exist. I've met a lot of Maryland alumni that talk about how Duke is their biggest rivalry. I've NEVER even heard a Duke or UNC fan or alum mention the words Maryland and Rival in the same sentence. You might say the same thing about Iowa fans and ISU. This is different. Nobody even talks about Maryland. They just don't care. Marylands butthurt because they aren't in the headlines in the first place.

Just an FYI. The Big 12 abandoned the trademark on Big 14 on September 24, 2012. It's the first time it's been open since they resurrected it in 2004.

I will laugh my *** off if the new York cable companies refuse to get the BTN. Scout.com: Does Rutgers really bring in the NYC market?

I have a feeling this wheel has already been greased and a verbal in place. I would like to see the Big 12 add universities that add strength and power. When the first round of expansion took place it was about football then eyeballs. Now it's changed to eyeballs then whatever. Since football is the cash cow at this time in college sports we should go after the best football tradition rich programs out there. Having a strong football base will strengthen the conference and put the 12 in the same category as SEC. Regionalization would be nice, Take as many Florida schools as you can and work your way up.

I don't see the Big Ten calling themselves anything other than the Big Ten

Obviously. I was just pointing out that they've held this for so long that it's strange to let it go considering they still hold the TM to Big 8. My guess is they've determined the value of the Big 12 brand outweighs the stupidity of having more (or less) teams than 12 but why let the TM go is my question. (Not that I expect an answer here to the question.)
