Hate for lolo?

As much as I like Lolo, Dawn Harper shouldn't be questioning herself for winning gold in 2008. It's quite simple - she executed, Lolo didn't. In the end all she can do is run her own race, and it was good enough to win her (and the US) gold.

60m Hurdles is indoor T&F.

Yep. Be it a chicken sandwich selling restaurant, Tebow, Gabby Douglas, Lolo Jones, or former Miss America contestant Carrie Prejean regardless of your accomplishments; announce you are a practicing Christian and you will be immediately attacked with all venom and scorn available...

She won three NCAA titles and is 11 All-American while at LSU.
She won indoor US national titles in 2007, 2008 and 2009 in the 60 m hurdles.
Won gold medals at the World Indoor Championship in 2008 and 2010.
She is the American record holder in the 60m hurdles.
She is a 2 time Olympic qualifier and was the world leader and favorite in 2008.
Has struggled with injuries since.

"never having really done anything of consequence"

Does not apply here.

I know, wtf for those who say she hasnt done anything... and she would have easily won gold without that slight trip during the last olympics...

I hope the writer of that article gets bombarded with hate email. Maybe he should sit down and have a face to face interview with Lolo and see if his opinion changes. She had a very rough upbringing, essentially homeless at one time being raised by a single mother. She's very humble and had to fight hard just to get to where she is today. I doubt the writer has any idea just what exactly she has gone through to get to where she is and to me she deserves all the credit and attention she gets as she's earned it. I've always felt good things happen to good people and for what she had to go through she's getting the rewards she has fought so hard to get to.

It's a shame some people can't celebrate some people's hard fought success and instead choose to smear them like this writer did. It's not like Lolo is actively trying to promote herself, she's naturally charismatic and I don't think she uses that trait to put herself up on a pedestal.

Lolo looked great today. She also looked ****** afterwards. You know she read that NY Times junk article. What a great country we live in where we tear down the good people who do the right things, just b/c they are liked by to many people.

Anyways, I wouldn't count her out of winning gold. She is ****** and ran fast

Four years ago she was the best hurdler on the planet and probably wins that race 7 times if they run it 10 times. She screws up, loses, handles it amazingly, gets hurt, fights her way back, and makes the olympic team which is a complete shocker. If Dawn Harper or Kellie Wells have a BETTER story than that, I'd love to hear it.

so being from East St. Louis, and avoiding gang life and drugs, and committing to a dream, and being dirt poor and having no money and having to borrow shoes from other athletes to compete in the Olympics isn't as good as story?

There are plenty of good stories about athletes, many if not all athletes have to overcome injuries and or defeat at some point.

The only reason anyone gives a rat's *** about Lolo is she is hot and poses for seductive pictures, and then says "i'm a virgin" I am not a hater by any means, but the reality is, men pay attention to her for this reason, not her story.

The article was mean spirited and went too far. But some of it is true. If she was buck-toothed and named Beth Jones, no one would care about her.

Which is fine. The world has worked this way for thousands of years, and will continue to work this way.

It's a pretty good story, I just don't think it's as good as a similar one that also includes failing in front of billions and a potential shot at redemption. People love that stuff. Lolo being good looking is a part of her appeal to the media, but I disagree with the assertion that the only reason people are interested is the way she looks.

Q: Who won the 100m hurdle hurdles in Barcelona (1992) when Gail Devers face planted?
A: Only Google knows.

In this post you do a great job of impersonating one.

Yes, there are plenty of good stories about athletes, but her story isn't the only one that is being told during this olympics. And the media assumes (generally rightly so) that people are interested in repeat US olympic athletes and hearing the rest of their story.

I'm not a huge fan of hers, but I don't think she deserves this level of scorn.

Also, right or wrong, charisma comes into the equation. Part of the appeal of Lance Armstrong was his charisma. This year Bradley Wiggins had/is having a monumental year but his charisma or lack thereof on the podium is not endearing him to fans or the media. I'm sure this will improve for him if he stays on top, but it is an issue.

No kidding. I love the audacity of posters here who rip on athletes and make it personal and then write "don't get me wrong, I don't hate him/her..." SMH.

Anyway, as I wrote earlier in the thread I do think there is some validity to what the author wrote about Lolo's popularity, but the tone of the piece definitely came off as *****y and mean, and it didn't need to have that tone in order to convey the point to the reader.

It's interesting; between this article and the absurd piece Fox News put together about the lack of patriotism shown by our athletes (discussed in a different thread), one really gets a good picture of just how pathetic the state of modern journalism in this country currently is, ironically from two different establishments on opposite sides of the political spectrum.

Not buying it for a second. I don't even remember her falling flat on her face, but I do remember seeing her naked more than once, the latest on the Outside magazine here on my desk. I support her, root for her, but don't think for a second she would be this popular if she wasn't hot. That is how society has worked from the beginning. People like hot people.

I see no hate anywhere in my post. Lolo is popular not because of her story. If y'all can't except that, then it is high time I moved on. No where did I say I agree with the NY Times article.

When you totally discount everything she has done like this, I would call that hating:
The only reason anyone gives a rat's *** about Lolo is she is hot and poses for seductive pictures, and then says "i'm a virgin" I am not a hater by any means, but the reality is, men pay attention to her for this reason, not her story.
Call it what you want.
