We WILL be ranked next Monday..

The only reason I want to be ranked next Monday is that it means we beat OU. Otherwise, I don't really care that much. It would be nice after not having been ranked for a very long time, but being 7-3 in Big XII play would be much more impressive & noteworthy, IMO.

Couldn't agree more, being ranked is all part of the "politics" of college sports. Sure they rankings don't really mean anything but the people in the media and even the tourney committee are judging teams primarily on paper. And on paper being ranked definitely means something. Also get ranked and all of the sudden you're on the "bottom line" feed on ESPN, as well as mentioned on Sportscenter, all of those things help keep you fresh in the commitee's mind.

Also, it gives you a position compared to other teams in the nation. If ISU is 24th in the polls, people think "Oh thats probably close to at least a 5 or 6 seed in the tourney" when doing bracketology (see KState).

If you arent in the top 25, you are just one of the other 300 schools. Nobody has any definitive context to who you are as good as or better than. I bet our seed projections skyrocket if we beat OU and get in the top 25. Right now people are saying 11 and 12 seed in some brackets. That puts us in the upper 40s in the nation. You can't do that when everyone is already agreeing we are in the top 25.

would mean something if being ranked is your goal. But the goal of this team isn't being ranked but to make some noise in the Tournament. Ask KSU how much being ranked means.

The goal of the team is to make the tournament.

Yeah I like not being ranked. Sneak up on people like a ninja.

As long as we are dancing as say a 7 seed, I will be happy.

I'm pretty sure you are just saying that for comedic effect but...I'm also sure there isn't a team in the league that this team can sneak up on. Beating both KU and KSU as well as playing KU in the Phog closer than any other Big 12 team certainly has gotten everyone's attention. Also everyone has seen how dangerous RW (and his band of misfits) is.

Every team will be prepared to face a formidable opponent - that's not to say that a team like Baylor might not look like it. That is just how unpredictable Drew's squad is.

In my opinion being ranked would be huge. Just brings more attention from the committee. Being ranked late in the year would definatly look good on our resume

If you want to be a 7 seed, then you want to be ranked. If ISU goes all year without cracking the top 25, they'll end up a 10 or 11 seed at best. If we are in or at least in and out of the top 25, then we should end up around a 7 seed.

I don't necessarily agree that if we beat Oklahoma that we will be ranked, with only 9 votes we have to come up a long ways to break into that Top 25. Teams directly in front of us that we will likely pass include Kansas State (obvious), UConn (given they lose tonight against Georgetown) & Vanderbilt (lost already this week). That still gives Gonzaga and perhaps Nevada first dibs on an open spot in the Top 25, given they don't lose their games this week.

Who could fall out of the Top 25?

#25 Louisville - Would have to lose their game against Rutgers on Saturday
#24 Florida State - Good potential here, even with a win tonight they face #18 Virginia on Saturday. A loss there and would likely fall out.
#23 Harvard - Two games they should win, not likely.
#22 Michigan - If they beat #20 Indiana, even with a loss to #10 Mich State on Saturday they likely remain higher.
#20 Wisconsin - Beat Penn State, plays #3 Ohio State on Saturday; even with a loss there they may fall but probably not far enough.
#20 Indiana - Probably will lose to #22 Michigan, play Purdue on Saturday; win at Purdue but likely still close to fall out.

In the end, I think with a Cyclone victory on Saturday we climb but still end up just out of the Top 25 (26 or 27 spot)... Either way, more importantly we'd remain at least just 2 games back for the Big 12 Title race or perhaps 1 with some tough match-ups for Kansas yet this week.

Shouldn't we hope to be a 10 seed? I think I saw somewhere they win more than the 7 seeds ;) :jimlad:

Considering the fact that there are 9 teams ahead of us in the AP poll and 6 in the coaches poll, I think it is safe to say we won't be ranked next week.

If we beat Oklahoma I will say 50/50, if we beat them and Okie State I will say 95% chance of getting ranked.

If we're not ranked after beating OU, we'll likely have to win OSU and then TAMU next saturday.
