Any chance we see a true freshman next year?

With Horne, Gary, and West we may see more broken tackles in one year than the previous 5. Of course, it will help if we have a QB that hit these guys in stride.

Between Lenz, Gary, Horne, and Jarvis West, the only thing we're sorely missing from our receiving nucleus is a deep threat.

Just throw in some select j's at select moments, and I think this song just about covers my opinion on that subject.

Lampkin is crazy fast, fastest player I have ever seen
listed as 4.6 in the 40. Fast, but isn't there some receivers in the Big 12 that are faster?

I'm new to the board however I tend to follow the Florida players; being from Florida myself. I can say that I have seen Bundrage play in person quite a few times football and basketball and I can honestly say that Iowa State got a diamond in the rough with this one. I am looking forward to next season to see what changes some of the RS Freshman bring to the team. I did a little research on some of the guys above and i'm excited! I must say Bundrage was a beast on the hardwood as well as the football field. I love my Florida CFB teams but will be following ISU as well.

Lampkin got quite a bit of lovin' by the Omaha media. I'd like to see this kid in action!

IMO, the QB position is Barnett's to lose next year.

Yep.

JB has earned the right in games he's been in to come out as the starter next year. You cannot have too many capable QB's however, and all of them should understand they are never more than one play away from being in the game.

I think that JB has played very well for a frosh...and has a leg up on the QB competition. Saying its his to lose might be overstating things a bit...and I think we'll see a very open competition in the spring. Certainly, JB goes into that as the number one QB...and he deserves that head start. But the job will still be there for the taking if someone steps up and simply outperforms him. Steele just was not a good fit for the offense we run...given time he would likely adapt and reduce his turnover problem, but we don't have time to nurse him through that. Sam Richardson, on the other hand...much like JB...has a background in running a similar offensive style. If his passing ability is significantly better than Barnett AND he can handle the option read stuff as well...he will take that starting job away. I think that's unlikely at this point...as Barnett has been very effective for the most part...but it is certainly in the realm of possibility. JB has shown some weaknesses in his game when it comes to hitting and finding open receivers consistently...some of that due to being a freshman AND having a good number of passes dropped...but also due to his own inaccuracy at times. That is the chink in his armor, so to speak...though I would acknowledge that he may very well repair that chink in the off season. So...Sam Richardson WILL have the chance to prove himself the better all around QB...though most likely JB will fend him off and hold the job IMHO. Remember...that kind of competition is very good for young QB's.

I'm old enough to remember the awesomeness that was Hardemann/Stanley in the greatest offense ISU has ever had...and I'd be fine with reliving that kind of production from a PAIR of QB's. More importantly, the offense we run means our QB's are going to take a pretty good beating...so we MUST have two guys that are damn good players and can keep the offense moving. If JB is "the guy", its almost a certainty he'll get dinged up enough to miss a few games over the course of the year...so however this turns out...I expect Sam Richardson to see significant and important playing time. With Jantz and Tiller still on the roster...though I'd love to see one or both join the receiving corps...there's no way Rohach gets his redshirt pulled. Gonna be a very fun year on offense and you can visibly see our talent getting dramatically better...AND...molding itself to fit Herman's style of offense.

As long as they all have better hands than Darks. My God.

Agree. This will sound harsh, but we can only get better by Darks graduating. Nothing against Darius, because I'm sure he's giving it his all, but he just can't catch the ball like he needs to in this offense. I'm not even sure why he was out there for the most part yesterday.

As for the young guys... I'm very excited about Bundrage and Daniels because Rhoads himself said that these two guys would probably see action this year because they were that good, but they haven't played and are being RS.... so that is a REALLY good thing IMO.

Gary has shown promise, and I love Jarvis West's playmaking ability. Lenz is Lenz... he will be solid. And I really think we're bringing in some very talented young WR's.

As for QB... I still think we're searching for "the guy" to lead this team. Barnett isn't where he needs to be, BUT he's only a RS freshman, so he has time to learn and get better. He made some REALLY poor throws and reads yesterday and couldn't move the offense. I don't think the wind helped any, but he still has to find a way to move the offense better.

I think it will again be a wide open race at QB next year. I just hope it's either Barnett, Richardson, or Rohach because I want a young guy.

I guess I find it disappointing that nobody else on the roster is better than Darks or they would have been playing.

I find it plausible the freshmen were not ahead of him in August, but if starting the season today, would get reps. Plus, we have some guys start getting more reps like Gary, Young, and West.
Darks knows the offense, route running, and understands you have to at least try to block.

It's no secret that our senior receivers have been a disappointment this season. I wish them well and greatly look forward to the future of what we have at receiver for next season. I hope we can develop a big, downfield threat - as it's something our offense is sorely lacking.

Reynolds has 7 TDs and a 16 yards/catch average, with two more games to go. Hardly a disappointment imo. I am not disappointed in Darks, after watching him the past couple of years he has played like most anticipated.
