NWC To Commit Friday

This has been discussed several times before. Fred did not oversign this past spring. By the time signing day rolled around this past spring, the attrition had occurred (McKnight and Phillips had already left the program). That will not be the case if NWC would sign with ISU this fall. Which is why I expect him to commit this Friday with Mizzou and then sign with them in November or whenever the Fall signing period occurs.

But they had committed right? And scholarships don't count till they are on campus. There is an entire year to wait for the attrition.

Re: NWC To Announce College Choice Friday

Anyone know what his teammate that visited Mizzou with him is doing?

Stefan Jankovic is still in his recruiting, but is said to have pushed his list down to 3 which includes Missouri, Purdue and Florida State. He has an upcoming visit to Purdue on October 15 so I wouldn't expect his decision anytime soon...

Just a reminder. Attrition had been our middle name. i would sign him and let the rocks fall where they may.

You have to have faith in Fred. If he takes him, he probably knows something about our numbers in the fall.

Attrition is the name of the game across college basketball. We're definitely near the top in having dealt with it but it's just part of today's game.

Nwc will commit to us even if we don't have an open scholly today. 95% chance one is open before the end of year.

That is right... Fred oversigned last fall. We had one extra signee after the fall last season. By the time spring rolled around, it was fine.

Thing is, who do we really think is leaving? The transfers can't leave. That narrows it down to Ejim, Railey, Sledge, Gibson, McGee...unless RW goes pro (and I can't see that happening after one year). Personally, I would let NWC go to Mizzou and if something opens up in the spring, find a good transfer that helps the team in 13-14.

Stop worrying about scholarship count affecting his decision.

If he commits to us and worse case scenario no scholly opens up he'll just re open his recruitment and quickly go somewhere else.

Along with a big black eye to ISU.

Put it this way...if the scholarship thing was truly a concern he would have removed isu from consideration a while ago.

True. If he signs with ISU it isn't because we think somebody might leave. It's because Fred knows somebody is leaving.

It's not going to be a "let the chips fall where they may" type of signing.

I really don't think the scholarship comes from Royce.

I agree. I think last year that had a pretty good idea that Mcknight couldn't play at this level, and maybe they weren't sold on Phillips either. So they knew they'd have at least one slot opening back up. This year, I bet they hope to keep everyone on the team around.

This can't be true if they are still offerring NWC.

Fwiw...I HATE talk of who the scholly would come from.

Let things play out. None of us know, except maybe Fred, and us theorizing only makes us look bad.

If he signs with us and no scholarship opens up, that's a problem. The letter of intent is a contract that the university will provide a scholarship for one year. If both sides are willing to waive the NLI, no big deal. If he refuses to waive it, ISU is on the hook for the scholarship one way or another.

Have we ever had to worry about having too many good players on this team? I love this feeling.

It could still be true. The staff could hope to keep everyone around, but be resigned to the fact that there will be some attrition regardless of what they do. Its a safe bet, given our history. Or, the staff could be concerned about all the commits making it to campus (I don't have any reason to think this, just throwing out hypotheticals).

I really dont think Fred knows what is going on here. Doesn't he look at the online scholarship tracker?

What an idiot.
